Yeah I see this mentioned a lot. I called USCIS and talked to a customer support person because I had an RFE, but this didn't help at all. This can't be a "trick" so I am lost as to what people are doing.

Hi,

Exactly, I've read in this forum many people are doing this and I just wondered if it worked. Well, today I decided to try it, I called the 1-800 number and used the option that directs you to the RFE line...which directed the call to the California Service Center. The lady who answered the phone was very nice, she was actually helpful since I thought that my Receipt date for my I-130 was June 6th, but no, she said my priority date was May 24th. She asked for my I-130 receipt number. I only told her that I wanted to know the status of my case, and that I wanted to check that everything was in order. She said everything was fine and that I should be approved shortly.

Also, I checked the USCIS website today and both my I-129F and I-130 were touched....they had not been touched since July and August...

I am not sure this helped or not, it just gave me a little peace of mind, since everything seems to be going smoothly.

Unfortunately, the RFE "trick" doesn't really do much of anything. You can call to make sure your paperwork hasn't been lost, but the chances of it getting lost are slim to none. You can do the RFE "trick" if you want a little peace of mind that they still have your file. It won't speed up the process though. Some people think it actually slows it down if people are constantly calling and taking time away from the adjudicators who could be approving cases, but I'm one of the people who doesn't mind because I wondered for a little while if my file had been lost  I never called them though because I had faith in the system (tongue in cheek).

The best way to get an idea of when you will be approved (that I know of) is to look up on the "Immigration Timelines" tab here on visajourney and compare NOA1 dates at the CSC (or wherever your paperwork is filed at) and look up which NOA1 dates are being approved (NOA2) within the last couple of weeks. That should give you an idea of how far out your approval is. Knowing an approximate timeline from this info gave me a little more patience throughout the process. This website kicks a$$!!! :)

In case anyone needs to know where the chart is and/or hasn't used it before, click the "Immigration Timelines" tab, click "View K3 visas", then on the chart, click the down arrow next to I-129F. Then keep going to the next page until you get to your NOA1 and then keep going until you get to a page where there are a bunch of NOA2's. This would be about where your service center is at on approvals.

Yeah, that is all the RFE trick is. You call the CIS hotline and follow the steps as if you received an RFE, and you are automatically directed to the service center where your petition is. When the CIS officer answers the phone, they can pull your case up in their queue (unlike regular CIS customer service) and actually give you a better idea about your case. They don't really tell you anything, but like Erika's Husband says, they can sometimes tell you where your case stands (unofficially) if you have a nice person, or they can be complete jerks, but either way, you'll get a "touch" on your case because they had to pull the case up from the actual queue to look at it. It was really beneficial to use back in late July and August when people were getting approved, but the website wasn't being updated, so people who used the RFE trick were actually finding out they were already approved, but I think whatever glitch they had with the website was fixed now.

Hello, and happy Sunday!

Wow, yes I see, we do have the same timelines and funny how we got married the same day. I agree, let's keep in touch to see how our cases go.

Best of luck.

By the way, I did try using the RFE trick and after my call both of my petitions were touched (not that it will help) but it just gave me peace of mind. I just called to asked them how our petitions were going and they told me everything looked good. We just have to be patient now and WAIT (I hate this word).
