PSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1."  The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!).  I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!

Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before....  I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago.  We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"

Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?

My Russian LPR wife filed an I-130 petition for her son on 8/19/24. The petition was approved 8/28/25. My stepson's 21st birthday was 10/22/2025. With CSPA, I calculate he doesn't age out until 10/31/2026.

Did I calculate his age out date correctly?

I just checked the June Visa Bulletin and the F2A final action date is 1/1/25. If I calculated his CSPA extended 21st BD is correct, he has not aged out and his case is CURRENT. Is that correct?

I have filed his DS260 and the required documents. Once his PD becomes current next month, do we need to do anything? Or does the NVC automatically start working on it?

I realize they aren't actually issuing Visas, so that won't happen until later. But I am hoping someone here will confirm that his case is current and tell me what we should be doing, if anything.

Once it is current, what effect does a FA date retrogression have on it, if God forbid that would happen?

    TIA.

    Hello everyone,

My wife is now eligible to apply for citizenship after having her green card and living with me in the USA for 5 years. When we first started the immigration process, we went with a laywer because she was here in the USA on a J-1 visa, and the visa said she had a two year residency rule. Turns out, after submitting an advisory opinion to the department of state, it was determined that she actually did not have a 2 year residency rule and she was eligible to adjust her status here in the united States (She was here as an Au-Pair, and received no funding from her government to be here on here J1 visa, hence the rule does not apply. au pair is not even on the exhange vistors skills list).

So we applied for her adjustment of status using the lawyer (fee was 5k!). Thankfully, she was approved fairly quickly.

Then almost 2 years later, we applied to remove her conditions on her green card (went with the lawyer again and it was 2.5k!)

Now she has had her green card for almost 3 years, living in the USA with me the whole time we have been married (for nearly 4 years!)

We bought a house together over 2 years ago. We have a son who is a year and a half. Joint bank accounts. bought a car together. on each others benefits and life insurance. all that.

Anyways, at the beginning of the process, i always was told by the lawyer that the legal fee for citizenship would be the cheapest (1.5K) but apparently she raised her prices by 2k! (3.5k total) for the citizenship case because of some presidential proclamation last august about good moral character.

I know this forum is pro-DIY, but i am wondering what people's recent experiences are? How much are your lawyers, if you have them, charging for citizenships. What would it be like to change lawyers if i did choose to go with a different one, considering the fact i used the same lawyer for the first two cases?

    Thanks in advance!

We got a 221g after interview to provide I-134, most recent IRS tax Transcripts and Passport. Apparently we got a 212a4 public charge. He s AGI is $26,028. But going through the I-134 form, I ve realized we did not follow instructions while filling the form, I know instructions exist for filling the form so I downloaded it and sent it to him. So who would have thought he didn t go by it. We did not add a copy of his birth certificate and bio data of his passport when it s stated clearly in the instructions that your affidavit of support would be rejected if you didn t do as instructed. Spaces were left blank instead of NA meanwhile we did same with I-129F and got an RFE to correct it so you would have thought we had learnt our lessons by now lol. Quite exhausting coz when I prompt him for a correction he doesn t listen.

Fast forward we gathered all documents and this time around he declared his assets(32646) with benefit commencement date in 12/2026 as well, and I added proof of my work experience, license and certificate to practice as a registered per US Embassy policies to overcome public charge in Ghana. And sent them to the Embassy. It been 7 weeks so far and the embassy emailed me that the case is under review and would contact me when completed but if I more evidence I should send it at my earliest convenience

The only reason why I am making this post is because I need help regarding health insurance qoute. My fiance is self employed and is not covered in any health insurance program but we want to send the embassy a health insurance quote that my fiance would get for me when I get to the US to make our case stronger. Any help please

Hi, my F2B Filing Date has been current which means I can do Adjustment of Status.

I am planning to visit USA with a B2 visa and currently you can only get single entry 30 day visa. If I file within 30 days, is it a risk of misrepresentation? Since I can't do 60 days wait let alone 90 days. Can anyone please suggest with any experience recently or know of such?
