DV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?

    Confused about steps after marriage
My fiancee arrived last month on K1 fiance visa and we got married yesterday. It seems from what I have seen online that I made a mistake by not getting SSN prior to marriage? I am going to the SSN office on Monday to gather more information... also worried about employment authorization and travel authorization(s). Thanks for any insights!

Tourist visa cancelled by CBP agent. Can we still get a CR1 or K1 Visa?
Upon my gf's most recent arrival, her tourist visa was cancelled at the airport due to her frequent visits last year and suspicion of working here. She was denied entry and sent back same day. Is a CR1 or K1 visa process an option still? I would appreciate any advice or tips you can provide!

I just got everything done. Received my US passport, about 2 weeks after the oath ceremony and immediate passport application. My spouse who is on Medicare for his medical coverage, received some letter about coverage B. We are yet to reach out to his agent. However, we wondered if the joint taxes from the last year (we have been doing since 2020) caused his income to go up and triggered something about the Medicare. My main question is do we have to keep doing joint taxes? We want to find a good way where he doesn't have to compromise his Medicare coverages. Even if we need to file separately as married people. Thanks for your input.

    Hi all,

My fiance (Vietnam) is having her interview next Friday. I noticed on the lists of docs for her to bring needs the petitioner (me) original and copy of the birth certificate. Not to mention the cover letter (on USCIS website) specifically states the original birth copies are for petitioner filing IR4 or F-5 petitions and not of K-1.... Problem is I was born in VN and got my USC through naturalization via my parents when they passed their interview in the US. My parents still have my birth certificate but not the original ans so i sent my fiance the copied version.

My question is.... For those who recently had their fiance passed through their k1 interview, did your fiance have to provide any petitioners original birth certificate?

Any questions y'all remember, can ya help a lonely brother out?

    Please help :)

Re-entry permit and Canadian tax residency

    Hello all,

I would need your help with this as I can't find any info and I'm guessing there must be people who needed time to wrap things up.

We are getting our EB1 greencard soonish. I am planning on living in the US as soon as we get it, but my husband wants to stay in Canada for an extra 1.75 years to fulfill his Psychology license. He will come to the US vacationing often, every couple of months, but won't live in the US more than 2 months/year for the first 2 years.

Because of this he plans on applying for a re-entry permit (Form I-131) correctly: going to the US and to wait for the biometrics and all.

But our cross-border accountant said as he will be in Canada for more than 182 days/year, he will be a tax resident of Canada.

Does being a tax resident of Canada have an impact on the US greencard?

Also because of him, even if I live in the US full-time, I will likely also be a tax resident of Canada (ties). Does that have an impact on keeping my greencard too?

Are there treads about people needing an extra year or 2 to wrap things up? I can't find them.

Thank you so much for your help!
