Community SpotlightDV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
Petrisaint Mpaka posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?-

Confused about steps after marriage
SP1988 posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
My fiancee arrived last month on K1 fiance visa and we got married yesterday. It seems from what I have seen online that I made a mistake by not getting SSN prior to marriage? I am going to the SSN office on Monday to gather more information... also worried about employment authorization and travel authorization(s). Thanks for any insights!-

Tourist visa cancelled by CBP agent. Can we still get a CR1 or K1 Visa?
yotajeeper posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
Upon my gf's most recent arrival, her tourist visa was cancelled at the airport due to her frequent visits last year and suspicion of working here. She was denied entry and sent back same day. Is a CR1 or K1 visa process an option still? I would appreciate any advice or tips you can provide!-

3 RepliesMy SEVIS and I-20 was terminated for failing to remain above 12 units.
I have overstayed in the United States. I may have stayed 181 days in the United States. I could not mentally stay in the US, so i left the country. I want to come back and finish my studies.
One lawyer was mentioning, that D/S does not apply to F1 students. Would i be inadmissible to the US? How do i reverse being barred? I want to transfer school as well, because the DSO was extremely unhelpful. It s been more than 9 months that i have left the country.
While, i want to come back to the US as a student. I am also under the Family-based immigration under my parents, that has just opened. What are my options and solutions?

3 RepliesHello all,
To provide some background into the situation, my fianc is Canadian and I am American and we are both new to the immigration process. We planned on getting married in the United States back on October 26th and as my fianc and her family attempted to enter the United States by land at the POE, the CBP officer denied them entry because my fianc 's father, who was driving the car at the time, told the CBP officer that his daughter (my fianc ) was getting married in the United States and that he did not know when she was going back. The CBP officer did not make my fianc sign any paperwork, swear an oath or stamp her Canadian passport. Instead, they educated my fianc on the K-1 visa and printed out form I-129F, then gave her the paperwork and sent her on her way back into Canada. At this point, emotions were running pretty high and we were all disappointed that we missed our wedding day. A few days later, my fianc wanted to meet me and family here in the United States before my family left to return to California (I live in Virginia) but once again my fianc was denied at the airport by the CBP officer and they did not allow her to visit me and my family. My fianc told me that the CBP officer simply gave her advice on not to return too quickly after being denied before. The CBP officer also suggested that my fianc try for a TN visa and the officer gave her a NAFTA packet that lists all TN jobs that she can apply for. She left the airport and once again returned home without having to sign any paperwork etc. We learned our lesson and now I am planning on filing form I-129F and my fianc will not attempt to enter the United States without the K-1 fianc visa in hand at the POE. Now that she was denied twice before, I am concerned that she may get denied a third time even if she has a K-1 visa with her to show the CBP officer. Should we consult an immigration attorney on this matter? What other options are there if my fianc gets denied again with a K-1 visa?

10 RepliesI've been in the USA a month now and I'm finding things difficult. The biggest problem I'm having is actually setting up any kind of 'footprint' of a life here. To do much of anything I need proof of address, but to get proof of address I need things that require... proof of address. All I have is my passport and social security number, and I currently live with my partner at their parents while we get established. Still waiting on green card, which I've been told doesn't have proof of address on it anyway. A lot of places have questioned my visa's 'one year endorsement as temporary green card' to boot.
I can't get a bank account - tried opening a joint account with my partner in Chase and they won't take my SSN and its attached USCIS letterhead as proof of address.
I can't get a library card without proof of address.
I can't get a contract or utility bill because living at partner's parents and also no bank account - see above.
I can't get a driver's license without proof of address.
I can't get a car or car insurance as no bank account or job to pay for it - see above.
I can't get a job without driver's license or car - see above.
I can't get medical insurance without job - see above. Also, partner is trying to add me to their insurance but I have to wait until they join their work union first. I don't know how long that will take.
It's all starting to take its toll and I'm struggling mentally. Things are starting to become strained in my relationship and I'm feeling more and more helpless by the day. The only hope I have is trying to ask about getting a State ID. I feel isolated. I worry about becoming a burden or 'freeloader', and even chasing some of these options to try and get myself established has turned into some unpleasant encounters and judgements from other people/employees. I don't feel like anyone is willing to help. They're more happy to tell you that they can't rather than outline what you could do. Not looking for hand-outs. Just want a hand-up.
