Community SpotlightN400: Admitted to Weed during Green Card (was it a crime I was not arrested for?)
Left Over posted a topic in US Citizenship General Discussion,
To start, marijuana is illegal in my country of origin. When I was applying for my green card I admitted to trying marijuana when I was in my 20's (I'm 49 now). I got my green card and have lived in the US for 5 years. I'm in the process of applying for citizenship. What answer should I give to the question: "Have you EVER committed, agreed to commit, asked someone else to commit, helped commit, or tried to commit a crime or offense for which you were NOT arrested? Yes or No" given that I admitted to past marijuana use during the GC process?-

Fiancée threatened with deportation by customs agent after arriving at airport for false accusations. How concerned should we be?
aerokkaido posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports,
Firstly, I want to get some things clear because I know everyone will say this otherwise:
We are seeing an immigration attorney for consultation soon. We've already printed out several documents to prove that my fiancée is not coming here with the intent to live here for the future until they get the K-1 Visa... Now, Heres the actual story...- 52 replies
Fiance or Marriage Visa in 2025 ? Pros and cons?
KandB posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
I'm 23F 🇨🇿, my partner is 29M 🇺🇲
We want to get our visa going sometime this year and want to be together as soon as possible but we are still unsure which visa would serve us better. I'd like to get married in my home country but on the other side i wouldn't mind getting married paperwise in the US and waiting for my work permit and etc if it would allow us to be together faster and then save up for and have our dream wedding in my home country.
What do you think ? All of this is so overwhelming and confusing and we just want to do the right thing.
I asked the same question on reddit, so many people recommended me to go with fiance visa, two suggested marriage visa. I need more input and advice from experienced people. Thank you
Ps: is it possible to have dual citizenship so i don't lose one from my home country? How does that work ?- 31 replies
Supporting evidence for AOS following K1 marriage?
smilingstone posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
I entered the US on my K1 last week and we'll be planning to get married over the next few weeks. Throughout the whole K1 process I had in my head that we will need further supporting evidence of our relationship/marriage for the AOS process, such as co-mingling finances, opening joint accounts, health insurance, etc. However, now that I'm revisiting guidance on our next steps, there isn't any mention of this.
I am wondering if I misread something early on and it just stuck in my mind, and that we actually don't need to provide anything like this. VJs AOS guide doesn't make any mention of it, and nor does any other immigration-based sites. Is this something needed for the potential interview (from what I understand not all people get called for AOS interview)?
Can anyone confirm or clarify what we need? A run down of the docs you provided, when filing and/or for interview, would be really helpful.
Thank you-

Tourist visa denied.. worried this will impact future family visa
mnelove97 posted a topic in Tourist Visas,
Hi, I’ve been thinking about this for a few days and feeling a bit worried. I wanted to have my husband visit me while we await our I-130 as I’ve heard some people have been approved while waiting. However he applied for a tourist visa in Jan 2024 and was denied as he said he was planning on visiting with his brother and had no family members here (true we were just snapping/texting).
We got married in July 2024 and he went in Sept 2024 at his 2nd attempt at a tourist visa - this time mentioning our marriage. The embassy worker didn’t give him a chance to speak and just said he’s “lying” because he mentioned last time he didnt have any family members in US (which he didnt). I’m worried this was written down as fraud and he will never get any visa. I’m not sure what the embassy would have written down for his denial?-

Wife was denied entry into her interview due to Copy vs Original Doc
Rollie New New posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
My wife was denied entry into her interview on Dec 20th 2024 because she had a copy of my divorce papers and not the original. Our lawyer tried to argue that the original was not required. But the embassy sent us a link that clearly showed the rule has been in place since 2022. Her new interview date is now Jan 23, 2025- 19 replies

3 RepliesHi Everyone,
I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but I wasn't able to find a thread for it, so I apologize in advance.
I'm currently living and working in the United States.
My fianc currently lives in Japan.
We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fianc will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months.
We want to apply for the CR1 Visa as soon as possible.
I want to know how and when we should get married so that the process goes as smoothly as possible.
For example, should we get married when she visits me on the tourist visa? She will be returning to her home country after about 3 months regardless.
In this case, would it be possible to begin the CR1 Visa application while she is still in the United States on a tourist visa? Or should we wait until she is back home in Japan before filing.
Alternatively, should we have a virtual marriage while she is still in Japan, so that I can apply for the CR1 Visa before she visits me on a tourist visa?
Finally, it would be possible for me to visit her in Japan to get married there before applying for the CR1, although that would be the most difficult and expensive option.
I appreciate any advice on the subject.
Thank you,
Eric
PS: We are open to applying for the K1 Visa as well, but I heard that they take about the same amount of time to process, so the CR1 Visa seems to be more advantageous (cheaper overall, can being working immediately, etc).

10 RepliesOk, so I came across some discussions here today regarding the I-865 (sponsor change of address) and I realized I never did one, actually I never realized I had to....and it's been a long, long time. We did do the online change of address submission for my spouse (the beneficiary) and I made the mistake of assuming that the government would just magically link us together that I was included in that deal (yeah, yeah...I know).
So now, we are getting close to 2 and 1/2 years in and I'm not certain what I should do at this point. Any recommendations?
Do I need a civil surgeon's signature if I'm submitting a vaccine waiver for religious reasons? 12:07 pm today

1 RepliesAs a K1 entrant who is adjusting status, who had a medical exam in my home country and deferred the vaccination portion, I understand that I can mark 4.A. on form I-693.
But, for that remaining vaccination portion, I am going to be submitting a waiver for religious reasons. Do I still need to make an appointment with a civil surgeon just for them to put in their name, info, signature, and check the box that says, "Applicant will request an individual waiver based on religious or moral convictions"?
Is proof of name change required if it's an old name not on any documents? 11:06 am today

1 RepliesSorry for posting 2 threads, I should have just made it into 1.
To preface, my spouse was a refugee in Thailand. They were given the choice to go back to where they came from or become a Thai citizen. Upon becoming a citizen they were given a name. My spouse has changed her name from that given name shortly after.
If none of her documents such as birth certificate, passport, etc., ever mention her old name, does she even need to mention that she had a name change? All her documents use the new name.
I ask because she does have a document of her name change from back then, but it is old and it's cut off around the edges so they might not accept it.

3 RepliesMy spouse had a J-1 to visit the US over 10 years ago. I have the I-94, but now they are saying I also need the DS-2019? I don't think we have this. She has the DS-160 only.
