Community SpotlightN400: Admitted to Weed during Green Card (was it a crime I was not arrested for?)
Left Over posted a topic in US Citizenship General Discussion,
To start, marijuana is illegal in my country of origin. When I was applying for my green card I admitted to trying marijuana when I was in my 20's (I'm 49 now). I got my green card and have lived in the US for 5 years. I'm in the process of applying for citizenship. What answer should I give to the question: "Have you EVER committed, agreed to commit, asked someone else to commit, helped commit, or tried to commit a crime or offense for which you were NOT arrested? Yes or No" given that I admitted to past marijuana use during the GC process?-

Fiancée threatened with deportation by customs agent after arriving at airport for false accusations. How concerned should we be?
aerokkaido posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports,
Firstly, I want to get some things clear because I know everyone will say this otherwise:
We are seeing an immigration attorney for consultation soon. We've already printed out several documents to prove that my fiancée is not coming here with the intent to live here for the future until they get the K-1 Visa... Now, Heres the actual story...- 47 replies
Fiance or Marriage Visa in 2025 ? Pros and cons?
KandB posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
I'm 23F 🇨🇿, my partner is 29M 🇺🇲
We want to get our visa going sometime this year and want to be together as soon as possible but we are still unsure which visa would serve us better. I'd like to get married in my home country but on the other side i wouldn't mind getting married paperwise in the US and waiting for my work permit and etc if it would allow us to be together faster and then save up for and have our dream wedding in my home country.
What do you think ? All of this is so overwhelming and confusing and we just want to do the right thing.
I asked the same question on reddit, so many people recommended me to go with fiance visa, two suggested marriage visa. I need more input and advice from experienced people. Thank you
Ps: is it possible to have dual citizenship so i don't lose one from my home country? How does that work ?- 31 replies
Supporting evidence for AOS following K1 marriage?
smilingstone posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
I entered the US on my K1 last week and we'll be planning to get married over the next few weeks. Throughout the whole K1 process I had in my head that we will need further supporting evidence of our relationship/marriage for the AOS process, such as co-mingling finances, opening joint accounts, health insurance, etc. However, now that I'm revisiting guidance on our next steps, there isn't any mention of this.
I am wondering if I misread something early on and it just stuck in my mind, and that we actually don't need to provide anything like this. VJs AOS guide doesn't make any mention of it, and nor does any other immigration-based sites. Is this something needed for the potential interview (from what I understand not all people get called for AOS interview)?
Can anyone confirm or clarify what we need? A run down of the docs you provided, when filing and/or for interview, would be really helpful.
Thank you-

Tourist visa denied.. worried this will impact future family visa
mnelove97 posted a topic in Tourist Visas,
Hi, I’ve been thinking about this for a few days and feeling a bit worried. I wanted to have my husband visit me while we await our I-130 as I’ve heard some people have been approved while waiting. However he applied for a tourist visa in Jan 2024 and was denied as he said he was planning on visiting with his brother and had no family members here (true we were just snapping/texting).
We got married in July 2024 and he went in Sept 2024 at his 2nd attempt at a tourist visa - this time mentioning our marriage. The embassy worker didn’t give him a chance to speak and just said he’s “lying” because he mentioned last time he didnt have any family members in US (which he didnt). I’m worried this was written down as fraud and he will never get any visa. I’m not sure what the embassy would have written down for his denial?-

Wife was denied entry into her interview due to Copy vs Original Doc
Rollie New New posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
My wife was denied entry into her interview on Dec 20th 2024 because she had a copy of my divorce papers and not the original. Our lawyer tried to argue that the original was not required. But the embassy sent us a link that clearly showed the rule has been in place since 2022. Her new interview date is now Jan 23, 2025- 17 replies

1 RepliesHello,
My wife finally got her letter from the Embassy, stating she is cleared to schedule her VAC and interview. The letter states "Immediate Action Required" and "Missing/Expired documents: PSA Advisor on Marriages. I checked the CEAC and I did upload our Adivisory of Marriages. These documents are dated February 2023. Have you ever heard if these docuuments are ever too old or expired? I did go back and read the USCIS instructions requiring the Advisory of Marriages and it does not state any expiration date. Have you any experience with this?
Thank you

4 RepliesHello everyone, I have tried scouring the site for someone who has been in a similar situation but wasn't too successful, so I apologize in advance if I missed another thread with an identical question.
Applying for AoS, K1 visa. I am reviewing my now-wife's DS-3025 and it is marked "K Visa applicant voluntarily completed vaccination requirements". However, the MMR vaccine, the hepatitis B vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccines are marked with the letter "D" in the blanket waiver column as they were unavailable in her home country. I am not as worried about the COVID-19 requirements given the recent updates I have read on the USCIS website. But for the others does this mean that the DS-3025 was not "properly completed", aka does she now need to get these vaccinations through a civil surgeon and subsequently submit a partial I-693? Or can we submit the DS-3025 as is?
Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance. Can provide more information if needed.
Filing Form 1116 – Foreign Tax Credit Explained 10:27 pm yesterday

3 RepliesMe (US citizen)
Spouse (Permanent Resident)
My wife and I are planning to file jointly (MFJ), but I m worried about doing our taxes correctly.
In 2024, my wife was in the U.S. from April to May (1 month) and again from July to October. She then returned to Korea, where she worked from November to December and paid taxes on her income there. Also, she didn't work in the US and made zero income in the US. As for me, I'm currently living and working in the US.
From my research, she does not qualify for Form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income Exclusion) because she spent about 3 4 months in the U.S., which does not meet the physical presence test. However, I read that she might be able to file Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit) to claim a credit for the taxes she paid in Korea.
My question is: Should she file Form 1116? I m trying to use TurboTax, but the process is confusing.
If anyone has any better suggestions, please reply.
Thank you.

1 RepliesMy sister-in-law is Mexican and lives in a border town. She is 65, retired, never been married, has her own simple apartment, a few thousand in a savings acct and receives a small social security monthly benefit. She has never had a US visa or been in the US. What will she have to have and show to qualify for a B visa for visits to our house and occasional border crossings for shopping etc ? Not much immigration info out there on older retired people. Are any of these policies changing under the new administration? Thanks!

1 RepliesI'm an Indian citizen who got their L1B visa in Canada a couple of years ago. I was a Canadian permanent resident at that time. Since then, I've given up my Canadian PR and currently have a tourist visa for Canada.
I'd like to renew my L1B visa in Canada for logistical reasons. Are there any risks of doing that over renewing in India?
Not sure if my travel history is required to answer this, but I visit Canada about once every two months, each trip lasting for 4 - 7 days, to visit friends.
