Community SpotlightFiance or Marriage Visa in 2025 ? Pros and cons?
KandB posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
I'm 23F 🇨🇿, my partner is 29M 🇺🇲
We want to get our visa going sometime this year and want to be together as soon as possible but we are still unsure which visa would serve us better. I'd like to get married in my home country but on the other side i wouldn't mind getting married paperwise in the US and waiting for my work permit and etc if it would allow us to be together faster and then save up for and have our dream wedding in my home country.
What do you think ? All of this is so overwhelming and confusing and we just want to do the right thing.
I asked the same question on reddit, so many people recommended me to go with fiance visa, two suggested marriage visa. I need more input and advice from experienced people. Thank you
Ps: is it possible to have dual citizenship so i don't lose one from my home country? How does that work ?- 31 replies
Supporting evidence for AOS following K1 marriage?
smilingstone posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
I entered the US on my K1 last week and we'll be planning to get married over the next few weeks. Throughout the whole K1 process I had in my head that we will need further supporting evidence of our relationship/marriage for the AOS process, such as co-mingling finances, opening joint accounts, health insurance, etc. However, now that I'm revisiting guidance on our next steps, there isn't any mention of this.
I am wondering if I misread something early on and it just stuck in my mind, and that we actually don't need to provide anything like this. VJs AOS guide doesn't make any mention of it, and nor does any other immigration-based sites. Is this something needed for the potential interview (from what I understand not all people get called for AOS interview)?
Can anyone confirm or clarify what we need? A run down of the docs you provided, when filing and/or for interview, would be really helpful.
Thank you-

Tourist visa denied.. worried this will impact future family visa
mnelove97 posted a topic in Tourist Visas,
Hi, I’ve been thinking about this for a few days and feeling a bit worried. I wanted to have my husband visit me while we await our I-130 as I’ve heard some people have been approved while waiting. However he applied for a tourist visa in Jan 2024 and was denied as he said he was planning on visiting with his brother and had no family members here (true we were just snapping/texting).
We got married in July 2024 and he went in Sept 2024 at his 2nd attempt at a tourist visa - this time mentioning our marriage. The embassy worker didn’t give him a chance to speak and just said he’s “lying” because he mentioned last time he didnt have any family members in US (which he didnt). I’m worried this was written down as fraud and he will never get any visa. I’m not sure what the embassy would have written down for his denial?-

Wife was denied entry into her interview due to Copy vs Original Doc
Rollie New New posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
My wife was denied entry into her interview on Dec 20th 2024 because she had a copy of my divorce papers and not the original. Our lawyer tried to argue that the original was not required. But the embassy sent us a link that clearly showed the rule has been in place since 2022. Her new interview date is now Jan 23, 2025-

Can I Travel to the USA with a Pending I-130 Petition?
Rayman2025 posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
I have been invited to speak at a conference in the USA. My partner, who is a U.S. citizen, has filed an I-130 petition for me as we plan to move there eventually. I also have a job offer, and the employer is in the process of sponsoring an O-1 visa for me.
1. Can I apply for an ESTA to attend the conference, and am I likely to be admitted?
2. Will traveling to the USA on an ESTA impact my I-130 petition or future O-1 visa application?
Thank you!

DV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
Petrisaint Mpaka posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?-

K1 Visa Case at NVC Since December 27, 2024 2:09 pm today

1 RepliesHi everyone,
My K1 visa case has been sitting at the NVC since December 27, 2024, and there s been no movement. I received my case number through public inquiry on February 3, 2025, but since then, the status on CEAC is still at NVC, and I haven t received the official K1 FTP letter yet.
I ve seen other people with later case dates for Ankara, Turkey already receiving their official letters while mine is still at NVC.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I reached out to the NVC again via public inquiry last week but haven t received any updates. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much in advance for any support!
PS: I received my NOA2 on November 8, 2024.
B1/B2 AOS - Marriage Recommendation 12:41 pm today

8 RepliesHello,
I am a USC and my fianc e is an Indonesian citizen. She has a B1/B2.
We are not married yet. We had been considering K1 but an attorney I chatted with stated that instead of applying for a K1 since my fianc e has a B1/B2 already, my fianc e could enter on her B1/B2, hit 60 days (this is what the attorney said, my research after shows 90 days as the threshold), and then apply for AOS and file an I-130.
I wanted an opinion on when our marriage should take place. Per the attorney it could be whenever, but my options are as below:
1.) Marriage in Australia
2.) Marriage via zoom in Utah when my fianc e and I are physically together (the attorney recommended against online marriage in this method, I have seen it suggested on this forum many times which makes me think she is wrong)
3.) My fianc e will come here for a short visit in April, marriage at this time
4.) My fianc e would plan to enter on her B1/B2, and then marry after 90 days and apply for AOS. This would be late year.
Appreciate any opinions and advice.

2 RepliesHi, I am US Citizen living in Pakistan for past 5 year to take care of my property here which worth about more than $2 million. I do not have kind of income as properties do not yield that much positive cash flow that is required by USCIS but the property itself worth a lot if I sell it.
I want to know weather I can sponsor my mother and my wife based of my property market value? Or should I move back to US and generate an income or find a co sponsor to do so?
Advice needed on providing evidence for 7 year long-distance relationship 10:39 am today

5 RepliesHi, my fianc e [27F from the US] and I [28F from the UK] have been together in a long distance relationship since the beginning of 2018. Due to her being in university until 2020, and then the pandemic where she was living at home, it wasn't appropriate to begin a K1 visa until more recently.
I proposed to her in the summer of 2024 and we are currently working on our initial I-129F petition/K1 visa packet. I have seen many people include evidence of every time they have met each other in person, photos and plane tickets etc. However, we have met in-person a total of 14 times over 7 years, and 5 times in the last 2 years.
I'm very confused over how much evidence of meeting we need to include. I considered only including evidence of the last 2 years, but is this enough to tell the story of/prove our bona fide relationship? A lot of big events happened before the last two years like expensive trips together, meeting each other's families etc.
I'd really appreciate advice on how to narrow this down or help with what we should absolutely keep -- whether we should give a list of every meeting perhaps even if we don't include evidence for all of them, or is that pointless? Right now we've got photos from every meeting, receipts from a few big events, and our plane tickets from the two last times we visited each other, but it's feeling like absolute overkill with far too many pages. I'm just worried about taking out something we need.
We are also both women and in a lesbian relationship so we feel a bit more anxious about 'proving' our relationship is real and not just gals being pals.
If anyone has been in a similar situation with a long-term relationship finally applying for a K1 visa, I'd really appreciate the insight. Thank you!
