Biometrics appointment tomorrow. Can I also get a stamp?

Hi everyone,

I have my biometrics appointment scheduled for tomorrow (filed on Oct 9, NOA received on Oct 30). My question is: can I also ask someone at the USCIS center tommorow to put a stamp in my passport as I am going to travel in January?

They will tell you that the I-751 NOA1 letter is green-card extension.

You will receive a notice of receipt for the form stating that "Your alien card is extended one year - employment and travel authorized". Keep the receipt with your green card. If by some chance you are not approved within a year you will want to make an InfoPass appointment to go to your Local Office to request an I-551 stamp in your passport. This does happen as it sometimes it takes over a year to be approved. After your NOA extension expires, this is your only evidence of legal status which you are required to have, by law. This happens occasionally, that a case takes over a year, but it's rare. Local Offices will not give an I-551 stamp is you have another type of evidence of status (ie, expired Green Card + extension letter).

So what you are saying is that I don't really need that stamp as it's only for those whose extension letter has expired? Well, I guess it doesn't make sense to ask them then. Thanks again.

Usually you would have to make an Infopass appt for the I-551 stamp .. typically the ASC where they take your biometrics does not accomodate this. The Infopass appt is generally at a different place / location from the biometrics.

And true... the letter should / would suffice for the 1-year extention but there is nothing wrong with going for the infopass appt to try and get the I-551 stamp as well! The worst they can say is "NO!"
