Argh, I feel like a bad mom right now.

Last week my daughter was chatting with her friends online and out of the blue mentioned she had heard and felt a loud pop on the right side of her head above her ear, had some temporary pain there and then the side of her face briefly went numb. She didn't seem upset or even uncomfortable at the time so I didn't think it was a big deal...thought she might have twisted her neck in one of those wierd ways that is briefly painful then gone.

Well last night when we were having dinner she said that sense then she has been having very sharp concentrated brief pains in the same place (a couple times a day) and a duller pain on the opposite side. Along with that she's noticed that her right hand seems to be shaking all the time, but she really notices it when she's working on her digital artwork. Concerned this morning I called the Dr and they felt she needed to be seen and I took her in.

Dr has scheduled an MRI for her brain (with and without contrast) and c-spine for monday, when obtaining the referal for insurance they said they are looking for signs of TIA. I looked that up and it is a transient ischemic attack, or mini-stroke. I'm very concerned...honestly downright scared, I don't know what I would do if something happened to her.

Steve feels horrible that he can't be here to help me with this, he knows I'm worried and don't have much of anyone to talk to about this. I don't want to bring my concerns up to her, she's my baby, I don't want scare her. Heh I feel a bit alone right now :(

1. No I don't think you're a bad mom. There is no way you could have known.

2. Medical professionals I know tell me they wish their patients would stop looking everything up on the web. They tell me it does them more harm than good in that it 'scares' people more they need to be.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Probably true, I was already worried about something stroke related or god forbid something worse with the shakiness in her hands...I think I was kind of hoping he would tell me I was being over protective. Until Steve and I got married it was her and I for years so I am a bit over-protective.

Thank you Kajikit I really appreciate it. She's only 16 I'd hate something to happen that would well permenantly impact her.

Will do and thank you

The waiting is going to be rough, but the Dr has been her Dr since she was born, and my Dr before that so he knows all there is to know about her history wise. I know she's in good hands just can't help but worry

I know what you mean...Corey and I were joined at the hip before Craig too and he's nearly 13 now...you are NOT a bad mom..you MUST know that..you're not not NOT!!! At the first sign of more symptoms you did what you had to do. I bet she'll be just fine, but in the meantime I'll be thinking of you. Take care, and we're all here for ya!! :) M&C

Yeah that's kinda how Alyx and I are, even at 16, we've very close. My X and Steve both have thought I'm a bit too protective at times, but she's turned out pretty damned good for it I might say :P

Thanks all you guys for your thoughts, prayers and support. I do appreciate it very much so, I was fighting tears when I first posted, not wanting her to know how worried I am cause it would just make her scared and she's not right now.

My prayers are with you, I know how frightening that can be from both sides. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis as a child and my mother agonizes over it to this day. She always wonders if she could have prevented it, if it was her fault, or if she could have done things differently. Truth be told, there was nothing she could do to prevent or cure it, few mothers can. You cant change God's plans for you, you just do the best you can with what you have. My mom did the best she knew how, she was there for me. That's why God made mamas, they do the best they know how :) No matter what the outcome of your daughter's doctor visits, one thing is for certain : She knows mother will be there for her, that's what really matters. I hope you get a good report back from the doctor, it's good to know she is in capable hands (L)
