I say that if you look at his record the fears that he will be the pope east are unfounded. There is nothing wrong with using your beliefs to guide you. He was speaking to other pastors. Context is everything.

Read what I wrote and what I'm responding to. I still don't like Huckabee, but I agree that there's nothing wrong with using your beliefs to guide you. I don't agree with Huckabee's beliefs on AIDS or gays, but I still agree with Gary's statement.

People were afraid that Kennedy would take his orders from the Pope. That turned out to me false. I am sure if Huckabee were to win he wouldn't take his orders from anyone either. Religious people scare some without reason. In reality they use religious bigotry as an excuse to slam someone that has different political views. To bad this country has gotten to the point where it is OK to use a persons religious beliefs as an attack platform. Pretty shallow if you ask me.

One has to wonder why it is presently popular to attack anything Christian. Not just respectfully disagree but downright attack, ridicule and bash.

These same people that are bashing demand respect for their views but can't reciprocate.

It bothers me quite a bit when people use those phrases to justify disregard for separation of church and state. As long as the country has been around there has been a tug-of-war with the Christians who don't respect separation of church and state. Both "One nation under God" and "in god we trust" were historical consolation prizes for Christians. We added "under God" to the pledge in the 50s. And "In God we trust" showed up to appease Civil War-era Christians, who were growing in number. It was made into a motto in the 50s for similar reasons.
