Talk to the college or university financial aid office. But your husband may have to pay out of state tuition rates at public colleges until he has met the residency requirements.

Hello my husband is attending school at a community college(arrived in US Jan 2007) and he was able to get a loan thru financial aid....also he was able to get in state tuition. He had to bring in our marriage certicate and something showing that I was a resident and they honored it.

I wish you the best of luck. Another thing that your hubby will have to do is get his credits evaluated to see if the are equivilant to US standards. My hubby has a bachelors from Nigeria and it was recognized here as a bachelors. It cost about $150-$200 to do that.

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

I hope I'm not being nosey but I was just wondering why you had to pay to have his credits evaluated. What is for the University? I'm wondering because I've transferred universities a couple of times and have never had it pay. I wonder if this SOP for foreign exchange students.

I guess maybe there are some countries that have different standards tthan US. My husband also went to school in Europe for his masters and the same rule applied...his credits were evaluated to see if they were equivilant to The Netherlands standards before he would be accepted. Unfortunately I have heard of afew cases where some people had degree's in other countries and they were not recognized here...very frustrating.

There are afew agencies that evaluate credits (check online or even the school will supply you with a list)...I am not sure why the University does not do it...it would make more sense.

Hi Wendy,

Sorry I dont have answers to any of your questions, but, it's good to see you online here again. I pray that your life will be as loving and exciting as mine. My husband has been here 7 months now and has a really good job working for the military. He still smokes but has cut back just a little. If I come across any info, I'll gladly share it.
