I am a Canadian starting the process of a K-1 Visa. Since I won't be able to be put on my fiance's insurance plan through his work till we are married, I am wondering what other Canadians have done for medical insurance when they moved to the US?

I was eligible to be put on my husband's health insurance through his job 24 hours after our wedding, because it was considered a "life change". Other "life changes" on the list for that group policy were birth, death, divorce, spouse losing job. Because we were married fairly quickly after I entered the US (6 days), we weren't worried too much about it.

Ditto that's in the case where the USC already has insurance of some sort. Otherwise you need to buy a health insurance plan... and hound the jobs that have benefits.

I don't think it matters what country you're from... But when my fiancée was here on a B-2 to visit, I got her insurance through IMG Global and was satisfied with the price and service. Thankfully, we didn't need to use it, so I can't testify to whether the coverage is any good in practice.

We are planning to also get the same insurance for that gap between arrival and marriage.
