DCF India - got packet 3

Hello All,

I went DCF route and filled petition for my wife on March 20th.

my experience was same as agrawala

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8908

everything went smooth.

actually once we got into the building we were out in 20 minutes, wow!

then on March 24th, file was forwarded to Mumbai consulate.

and on April 18th, my wife received packet 3. so far so good.

now we have case number and priority date.

is there any site online where i can check which priority dates are currently being called for CR-1 interview in mumbai?

and another longer question...

my wife's passport expires in december. packet 3 says that passport should have validity of at least 6 months from the visa issued date. so her case will be border line when she will get called for interview. we will go ahead and renew her passport.

but was thinking should we take this opportunity and change her name. we have not done it so far.

packet 3 says that visa will be issued with the same name as is on passport.

so my question is should we change the name now? how difficult is it to change name here once she is in US? if we do it in US, how long do we have to wait before we can change her name?

thanks a lot.

Congrats on your successes so far!

Purely my opinion, but I'd think this is an ideal time to change her name in her passport if that is her plan.

You might want to post in on of the other India-specific forums here, or in the CR-1 forum where there is more traffic. I'm sure others will have input for you.

Hi Jordaar,

My suggestion is that you should get her name changed after she goes to the US. Reason: Seems like you filed I-130 with her maiden name. If you change it now (while the visa process is in the pipeline), it will be confusing - the petition will be in her maiden name while the changed passport will be in her new name - just my opinion - please take others opinions also.

Also, how did you know that your petition was approved on 3/24? Did you receive a letter to that effect from the consulate in Delhi? Or did you call them or e-mail them to find out?

Also, once you submit Packet 3, they will give you an interview date right away, correct?

Lastly, I dont think there is a way to find out the case status at any of the consulates in India - call or email is the only way it seems.

Please keep posting and let me know what goes on between now and the interview.

Thanks.

thanks agrawala for sharing your thoughts. we are going with her maiden name.

we sent DS-230 part-1 to Mumbai. have already applied for passport renewal. will send checklist in week to 10 days.

you are correct best way to communicate with consulate is email. i knew reading basanti's posting on this group that within a week papers reach Mumbai. so i emailed Delhi and they said oh yes you are approved we mailed it to Mumbai, if you have more questions you can contact Mumbai.

btw, do you know what is the procedure to obtain police certificate in India? where do you go to get such a thing? is there a standard procedure to follow?

I had filed I-130 in my wife's married name. I then went and got her passport changed right away with her married name. Besides she needed a new passport anyway.

As far as getting her PCC, you have to submit the request at the police headquarters in mumbai, who then forwards it to the local police station of your area, who then clears you of any problems and issues you a certificate. Do these things quickly, as our mumbai police can take some time.

Hope that answers your question. Let me know if more info is needed, i am midst of all this right now and I can ask my wife for more details.

All Need some help.

Recieved an update on my application after my fiance sent Packet 3.

The Mumbai Consulate stated in an email that the application is:

"Your file has been forwarded to DHS for review"

What does the above mean? Is it part of a normal process?

This is scaring me so much.

Please help......

thanks,

Dhaval

hi,

Your post appears to concern a fiance process--this thread is about a spousal process different from yours.

Please look in the K-1 forum for threads about "IMBRA"; many petitions are being returned at the moment due to a new law.
