Teenagers should be prohibited from visiting those sites period...myspace, facebook or any chatrooms...you don't know who's out there ...maybe a josh or maybe a chicallo (or however you spell that serial killer's name).

We like jurdging without knowing all the facts..and it's just wrong

I agree. I blocked all of those sites on my 17 yrs old sister's computer and limited her internet access to only 3 hours a day for her to do her homework. Just the other day she asked me if I trust her with unlimited internet access. I said no. All they do is gossip and it can lead to troubles.

Exactly! I perfectly and completely agree...

plus it's not about trusting her...it's about not trusting the internet

Very good point! There are so much out there on the internet and new community sites continue to pop up overnight. Last night I just learned about Facebook on here. I will need to add it to the list to block. It's very hard to keep up and it will be a mouse and cat game for parents.

:) Facebook it's just like myspace but i know what you mean...it's hart...and it's a very good thing that you limited the internet access to 3 hours...it's plenty to do homework and not enough to get in trouble :)

Oh..are you watching the Daytime wnbc...or something like that? They show how they catch sexual predators trying to solicit a minor to sex over the internet! They catch a lot of them A$$holes and arrest them afterwards...Makes you think when you see SO MANY of them...that even know about the TV show and still show up at a 15yrs old girl's doorstep trying to find her alone...the world is sick! so placing the suicide on someone else's shoulders just isn't right

hehe...the end sounded a bit controversial...let me correct "the suicide ENTIRELY on someone else's shoulders"

Ever since I read about this I have been doing some more research into it and found this website.

http://meganhaditcoming.blogspot.com/

It is really disgusting. This is the only website I have found so far that claims it is all Megan's fault. If it truely is the mother posting to this site, the posts show a really disturbed personality.

Again I am truely horrified and plan to speak to my sis in law and in particular my niece at christmas about the dangers of the internet. My niece is only 7 but she is getting quite quick at the computer now and really needs that information. Im also going to talk to my mum in law as it is at her house that the kids surf the net and play their games. She is a wonderful woman and a great mother/grandmother but is completley computer illiterate. Time to do some educating.

Delightful. What I don't understand is why this woman has such an inflated view of her own importance to come up with a rationale for her actions which were at best; immature, sadistic at worst. You can't justify bullying someone. That she didn't intend for the girl to kill herself is completely irrelevant. Anyone else at any other time would so ashamed by what happened that the least they can do is keep quiet about it.

Clearly this woman doesn't think this way - and this says to me that she doesn't value a human life above her own ego and sense of self. Very ugly.

Reading that blog was just absolutely disgusting.

Saying that, I really don't know how I feel about this whole thing...the Drew woman acted in a deplorable and sadistic manner. I think some of the onus for Megan's suicide is on her head. However, where were the parents and why did they drop the ball monitoring Megan's internet use? How could they not see how clearly disturbed their child was?

I dunno, this is just such an awful tragedy. The Drew woman - if she really wrote that thing - is disturbed beyond words.

Anyone notice in that blog entry that the story is only told from how it affected this woman?. The only references to compassion and empathy for the family who had lost a daughter are written from her specific frame of reference - how she felt bad for the

the family down the street that still grieved visibly and had devolved into fights and separation. I truly felt bad for them. They lost their baby, and now they were tearing themselves apart because the pain wasn't getting any better. I made sure to kiss and hug my Sarah every night and tell her how much I loved her. We actually grew closer from it.

And how scared she felt by the parent's reaction to the girl's death

Just like Megan, her parents showed their dark side and scared the holy hell out of me when they dumped our smashed foosball table on our driveway. Instantly I knew we were dealing with unbalanced people. Aggravated by their child's death and their own culture of anxiety, I very much feared for my family. I made sure to report the incident to the police so the Meiers would know that we would stand up for ourselves and that the police were watching, should they choose to do something rash.

A little bit after that, I decided to try to diffuse the situation and confront the parents. I would lay out everything I knew, all the intent, and everything I thought. If they didn't want to accept the truth about their daughter, then there was nothing else I could do. But I would at least try. Unfortunately, Tina & Ron would have none of it. They wouldn't talk to us, they wouldn't deal with us. Ron pretty much came unglued when we made one last attempt. They had nothing but raw hatred for us, and they wouldn't listen. That's when I realized it was hopeless.

How selfish and self-absorbed can you get?

Depression is common among teens and young adults - and can be hard to detect at the best of times, not least if you've become distant from your family on an emotional level. A member of our family attempted self-harm and suicide in their teens and early 20's, unbeknownst to the parents. They were understandably shocked when they found out...

The trouble is there were no adults in this equation. The Drew woman acted like she was a teenager and that compounded the problems. The dead girls parents should not have allowed their daughter unrestricted access while they were not there. I remember reading that while the final blow-up was going on Megan was home alone and her mother was trying to get her to log off over the phone. The trouble is she shouldn't have been online alone in the first place. This whole episode is an illustration of how NOT to parent. But the Drew woman is the real villain here. She should have known better. If she had a beef with Megan or her family she should have done it up front. Instead she took the cowards and juvenile way out. May this burn in her mind for the rest of her life.

I have been reading more on this and the parents were monitoring that account and it was fairly harmless up until the time that Lori decided to end the relationship (nastily). What I would like to know is what she told her daughter and Ashley Grills' when she came to the decision to end the friendship with Megan.

We will probably never know but they will have to live with their actions for the rest of their lives.

The blog supposedly written by Lori Drew is apparently a fake.

link

But if Lori did create the fake Josh account to find out what Megan thought of her daughter, even if she didn't mean any harm and wasn't one of the ones who actually tormented Megan, that was still such immature behavior on her part. Teenagers gossip and build cliques and do all that carrying on. It's the parents' job to help the kids grow out of that foolishness, not to participate in it themselves. If the teenage talk gets out of hand, the parents should talk with each other as adults in the interest of all the kids, not create fake MySpace accounts to spy on each other's children. I wouldn't go so far as to blame Lori for Megan's suicide, but I think her actions were very immature and she exercised very poor judgment, as did Megan's mom by allowing Megan unsupervised access to the Internet. I also agree that the Drews are in quite a bit of danger.

From earlier articles I've read, they didn't sound like negligent parents. Unlucky, sure, but unless you want to take the hard line that leaving a teenager home alone at all is negligence, they don't really sound like people that could have done much more. They had treated her depression, and until they day where the whole thing blew up, her being online hadn't been a problem; and it was supervised. None of the accounts were secret.

Megan was upset over the online spat, her mom told her to get offline, then she went out, called home to check in, came home, Megan was still alive and still upset, her mom told her to get offline, her mom went down to make dinner and talk with her husband about how they should approach this subject with Megan, went upstairs to get her for dinner, found her hanging dead in her closet.
