My understanding is: At the Chinese consulate in Guangzhou, the sponsor is not allowed to be present at the actual interview.

I plan to accompany Li to the consulate and let her take my passport in to prove I'm with her. However, I don't expect to have the opportunity to speak to the interviewing VO.

In the Dominican Republic fiance & spouse visas are usually denied if the USC isn't there. We were interviewed separately by two different men in our native languages - he did launch into spanish to test me. It was a bit stressful, but we survived.

Unfortunately, he told us they had good news and bad -- they believe our relationship but need to check his name further. So now 2 days short of 8 months later we sit in name check hell....

My honey was with me but even though he was there right by my side they pretty much ignored him :) They didn't ask him questions and didn't have anything to do with him as a matter of fact. The Romanian embassy wasn't too nice to me anyways :) I'm glad they didn't bother him. It's enough they made me go back to the embassy three times and wait for hours!

I (the USC) was present at my husband's interview in Brazil. The CO spoke to me more than he did my husband...hehe

The whole interview - fingerprints and all took about 6 minutes. But I do know that everything varies by country.

I think it's good for the CO to see you together - he was able to see how we communicate and hear our story together. Plus, we were both really nervous so I'm SO GLAD that my hubby didn't have to go through that alone.

Thank you all for your responses!

FWIW, I've already checked with the embassy and I would be allowed to attend. I'm thinking I'm going to!! My fiancée will be nervous as hell, so I want to be there with her.

Thanks again!

I think it's a good idea. I think we should be with our fiances during this time (if at all possible). We didn't spend Christmas of '06 together so we could save everything up for the interview. We had a wonderful reunion and everything went smoothly in Rio. My husband left his city at the same time I left the U.S. so we could meet up for the interview (and medical exam). Once he had the visa we came to the States together.

Wow, lucky you! The Embassy in Moscow forbids it. They fear the petitioner could somehow clue the beneficiary into giving the correct answer. Personally, I think that's ####### and should be welcomed. Shows support and committment if you ask me.

I did. It was quick, painless, and the gent at the Embassy was very pleasant. The whole thing took about five and a half minutes.

Some consulates allow it, some don't.

You can read up on all sorts of interview accounts under the Reviews/Embassy section of VJ. Look for it in the blue bar under the pictures of the smiling couples.

I attended my husband's interview in London two years ago. I'm not sure they are allowing that now. I'm glad I did - it's a nice memory.

Montreal specifically asked for me during my then fiance's interview - I wasn't there and she cited that as an issue (we got a 221g to provide more evidence of our ongoign relationship). I didnt join VJ until the date of our interview, and it was quite a shock to me to hear that wanted to see me as a precursor to visa issuance.

I didn't wind up going against the judgement of other VJers. I just sent them additional proof.

Hi, I have completed this process, my wife is here with a completed AOS now too. I have helped a number of other guys go through this entire mess, bringing their new ladies in from several other countries and I have never heard of anyone being able to attend the interview with their spouse, the AOS interview, yes, of course, but not the original K-1 application interview in her own country. The whole idea of that interview is to interview only the future immigran, alone, not the US citizen applicant at all. This interview is strictly for her, not you. She will be asked a number of questions about you, your life here, your family, how you met, how you communicate, how and when you met in person etc. Have her ready, with photos and all possible documents, receipts etc to prove you guys really are a couple, they will be testing her on this. It's usually easy and very short, unless she doesn't know things like how many brothers and sisters you have, what your favorite food is, what city you live in etc. Then they will make the interview tough.

Good luck, Ray. rraypo@hotmail.com

My husband attended the interview with me at the Vancouver consulate. It was painless and easy - the interviewing officer even asked him a couple of questions about our relationship.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...
