hi everyone,

i'm hoping that someone could advise me on this, so here's the scenario.

i'm a canadian citizen and i've been living here in the states for almost 2 years now. i have no issues with my status here, since thats been taken care of ages ago (or so it seems). the problem now is that i can't travel to canada (possibly missing my girlfriends wedding) because my passport is expired. easy, right? just apply for a new one, correct? well, to complicate things just a little more, one of the requirements when applying to get a passport is a proof of canadian citizenship, which i lost during our move to our new house. i went ahead and applied to get a replacement card for a proof of canadian citizenship so that when i finally get it, i can then apply to get a passport.

now, here are my questions.

will i be able to enter canada by land with an expired canadian passport and my green card?

if so, will i be able to return back to the states with the said documents as well?

thank you.

Are you traveling by car or plane? Getting back in all you need is the green card, but the worry is that they wouldn't let you across (or board the plane, really) with an expired passport.

What date are you travelling?

Actually, cancel that, it's irrelevant :)

I did find this:

When you enter Canada, a border services officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, when necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada; however, you should carry proof of your citizenship such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization or a Certificate of Indian Status, as well as a photo ID. If you are a permanent resident of the United States, you must bring your permanent resident card (i.e. green card) with you. link

I would, of course, bring the expired passport as well.
