Gonna attempt to do ALL of my holiday shopping tonight once the kiddies are off to their dads. Meanwhile looking for a treadmill to treat myself with for my Eid/Wedding anniversary present.

I don't think "treadmill" and "treat" really work well together in the same sentence.

hahaha!!! I know but apparently the whole going on a diet thing doesn't work for me so I figure this way I can keep on eating the good stuff if I just exercise it off!

We have 2 parties. The bowling alley with a catered dinner AND on Dec 20th, we have our 'in store party'. Everyone brings a dish and a gift to pass. Then we gather around the table with some singles and play Left, Right Center a few times. Not much work gets done on that day. I am hoping with creative sceduling, I can have off the week before Christmas. Go to the party, and come back on the 26th.

Happy Friday!

My boss asked me for my holiday schedule, and I had to tell him I'm not sure yet  My SO STILL hasn't bought a ticket, although he reserved one.... I'm starting to get very pissed off... He says he could get a better price when he goes into Cairo next week, but I'm just hoping they will still have tickets for the weekend before christmas. So I gave a tentative schedule, and asked him to be flexible since I will need a weekday to get some things done. The boss has also made it very clear that I will have no vacation or personal days btwn Jan 1 and 1st week of April. In Florida both parties have to be present to get marriage licsense and the office is only open 9-4 weekdays, which is pretty much my schedule at work  Not to mention the other gov. offices, ect. we will need to visit for all of his paperwork.

Sorry for the rant  I'm really going to be stressing this until I have a date...

I hope your husband gets the job you're looking for! Did you settle on a state to focus on yet or just going alphabetically still? I vote for throwing a dart at a map myself!!!!

Well, I looked through the entire list of places he could teach in the past 3 days (Good Lord! probably about 2000? CA has 109 alone!) and trolled for anthropology full-time faculty positions. I came up with about 10 or so openings (not exactly sure, I printed out the openings and brought them home and I am at work now). So he'll just apply to all of them! As I remember, there were 3 in CA, 1 in GA, 1 in MO, 1 in NYC, 4 in AZ, 1 in FL, and 1 in IL. So I guess that's 12 openings from memory. We'll just put them in order of due-date and apply.

I am hoping he gets something, but you never know. On the one hand, he doesn't have American credentials and degrees or perfect English, so this will look bad. On the other hand, he does have 4 years of teaching experience at a University (where he taught in both English and Arabic), has publications, has at least one American professional reference, has done a lot of course development across the dicipline, and directed the physical anthropology lab... which looks good too in addition to the fact he's young. I know that last part doesn't seem important, but the older you get the less likely you are to be hired at many of these places... I know several people who have been trying hard and getting rejected in favor of people with less education and less experience.. but were younger. So it appears to be a factor, although of course age discrimination is illegal so you cannot say for sure :)

We were discussing the fact that if he can get a higher paying job we would like that since we're not only both paying on my student loans right now and that would make it go faster, but then we also plan on doing the kids thing and he (and I) would prefer for me to stay home with them-- so it is only logical to then base the majority of the income making responsibility on him.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

no openings in boston? I would think they'd have at least one oppportunity since we have so many colleges here.

On a side note I have carpet cleaners cleaning two rooms, one overstuffed rocking chair and four dining room chairs and OMG are they LOUD!! I really hope they can clean the carpets good 'cause if not I'll have to go with the ripping them up choice. I was going to do that originally but it just feels better knowing the girls have a cushy rug to step onto when they get out of bed, you know?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh and if anyone is thinking of getting FIOS do it!!! I LOVE it! I got verizon fios tv, phone and internet and I am one happy camper. It came with the dvr option too and I have NO IDEA how I ever lived without it!!!!! Now I can watch all the CSI's, Criminal Minds, House and Cold Case whenever I want too!!!!! I just hope that writer's strike ends SOON!!

I'm starting the Hero's series using Netflix since I never watched it last season. I hope it's as good as everyone says!

Have you thought of trading in that car for a new one? Sometimes you end up plunkin' more cash into it trying to fix it then it would take to get a new car. Especially with the winter upon us I'd really consider it 'cause you don't want to breakdown in the middle of a storm or something!

I think at this point I ask myself every day why I don't trade in my Pontiac. I think I keep talking myself out of it because it's worth a lot less than what I owe on it. (It has 107,000 miles on it and for its age it's wayyyyyyyy over the average). But then again, at the rate I'm going, that car won't be running by 2011 , which is when it will be fully paid off. (ok, maybe it won't be running by 2008 ) So........ I can't really seem to make up my mind...I don't trust "new" used cars anymore because I prefer the old 80's tanks that refuse to die already. I'm really rough on cars...not that I'm a bad driver...but my cars don't like to be USED! I drive about 25,000 miles per year. And in the past year the fuel pump burned up, the brakes were replaced, I blew the head gasket and some kind of other gasket, I replaced the thermostat, the window regulator in the driver's side door, spark plug wires...etc etc etc etc etc. I've easily sunk about $4000 in repairs into that car...and it's only 5 years old...so after sinking so much money you wonder if you should just suck it up and trade it in for another car with a new set of problems or stick it out and hope for the best. I don't know :( I will never buy another car that I can't change my own headlights on again though. That's just ridiculous that I have to take it to the shop for that.

I want some kind of ugly car. Someone was selling a 1976 Pacer in the newspaper for like $1200.

And Ramy's jeep (you missed this!) We just got it last week for $700. It's fabulous and is just fine except for that radiator! Ok, it's really bad on gas, but once it's fixed it should be fine for a while.

Divorced. To hell with him.

Without a PhD his choices are limited.. and anyway anthro jobs don't come open that much-- I was really surprised to find this many! So now it's just up to that.

I love clean carpets. I want to buy a bissel carpet cleaner so I can do it all the time. That thing is awesome.

LaL-- I just wanted to say I loved your house :) Really cute!

Yessss it's finally Friday.

So Bridget I see you are back- was it the AP that drove you away? Did the AP make you send messages to members questioning how much Amerylu supported her husband while he was in Egypt? Did the AP make you slip and send it to her cousin? Oopsies! Better be more careful next time.

No Sarah, I never sent any pm's about aymerlu. It was hard watching you try to start that rumor about me but I know that my true friends know the truth.

Sarah for once and for all please stop baiting people on this forum. It's well known that this is what you are doing time and time again so that people will blow up at you. To spread a nasty rumor about me while I was gone saying that I sent pm's about aymerlu is just low.

If Aymerlu's cousin thinks that I did this then I hope she will send the offensive pm to me so I can see it.
