You can not apply for a SSN until you have your EAD.... that is going to take about 90 days+ from when you filed your AOS packet....

Once you have the EAD you can then go to the SSA abd apply for a SSN.... You can not work until you have both the EAD and the SSN..

If you read the OP's timeline you will see that they arrived on a tourist visa and stayed..... they can not apply for a SSN until they are authorized to work in the US.... that is why they have to wait for EAD then apply for SSN.... only K1's can apply for a SSN before they have a EAD because the K1 is work authorized for 90 days from entry....

This isn't relevant to the SSN part but - looking at your timeline, it says you just sent AOS/EAD/AP - did you sent I-130? If not there are going to be problems with your application...

If the I-94 has expired you will need to wait until you have something from the USCIS, like the EAD, showing current legal status.

Makes no diffrence if the I-94 has expired or not..... the op came on a tourist visa and has not entitlement to SSN until they have either a EAD or Greencard.....

It's usually not much sooner than 2 weeks. I'm a USC and it usually takes at least 2 weeks for me to get a new one.

You need to allow 2 weeks to receive the card once the application has been processed. Cards come from SSA Headquarters in Maryland, so if you live in Maryland or a near by state should come sooner, but still need to wait 2 weeks before saying you haven't received the card. Now if you just want to know the number, you normally can go back to the SSA office the day after the application was processed to obtain the number.

Plus keep in mind this all depends on how long it take SSA to verify your status, which can be from at the time you are in the office to months.

I believe in the SSN website allows you to get a SSN for the purpose of reporting a tax return, If you are non permanent resident married to a permanent resident or citizen. I confirmed that in the IRS website too.

You believe wrong. If you aren't authorized to work or have a valid non work reason for needing an SSN (filing taxes isn't one) you can't be assigned an SSN, but the IRS issues ITINs for tax filing purposes to people ineligible to be assigned an SSN.
