Hi guys

I just got married yesterday, and plan to file my AOS till I got my certified copy of marriage certification in 2 weeks time. I am thinking to file I-485, G325A, G325, I-864 and I-765 (work), and the forms did ask for my family name, could you guys please tell me which family name I should fill up? My actual family name or my husband's family name? And how can I change my family name to my husband name? Is there any forms that I will need to fill up?

Hope you guys can help. Thanks again.

Congrats mcfei on your marriage!

I-485, G-325, I-864, I-765.... these I believe are correct but I don't think you need the 325. Also add to that the I-131 if you want to be able to travel out of the country before you recieve your greencard. Remember to include 2 passport photos for each I-485, I-765, and I-131. So if you are only sending the I-485 and I-765 you'll send 4 passport photos.

As for the name change, if you will be using your husband's last name then use it on all of the forms. (And if you do this remember to bring an origional copy of the marriage cert. to your biometrics appt.) This will insure that your GC comes in your new name.

Check with the laws of the state in which you live to see what you need to do to change your name there. In Vermont where we live, my wife only had to start using it and show her marriage certificate when getting things like bank accounts.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your marriage!

If you want to start using your husband's name now, do so. Make sure you put this new family name down now on all your paperwork. Changing it later will cost money! You're going to include a copy of your marriage certificate, so that will show the progression from your maiden to married name.

Congrats on your marriage  We filed Claudeth's AOS in her married name. We had to wait for something from the USCIS to change her name on her social security card.

Congrats on your wedding!

There was also a confusion in my part when i was filling out the forms.. i didnt know which one to use: my husband's last name or my maiden name.. after reading related topics here, decided to use hubby's last name. someone mentioned i could use whichever last name but to have it changed later we'll have to pay $300 something.. and we certainly don't want to do that!

I would highly recommend that you file for AOS in name you are planning to use the rest of your life, for you will have it on your GC and have to change your passport to later on so you do not have to have copy of marriage certificate everytime you travel in and out of USA in future or do anything else that requires ID.

I-485, G-325, I-864, I-765.... these I believe are correct but I don't think you need the 325.

Correction, you do need to fill out form G-325A.

From I-485 instructions:

Form G-325A, Biographic Information Sheet.

You must submit a completed Form G-325A if you arebetween 14 and 79 years of age.
