Me and my SO both have friends of the opposite sex... but we made the decision when we got together not to spend time alone with them. It isn't because we're incapable of controlling ourselves, or because we don't trust each other... it's out of respect for one another, and also removes any kind of suspicion or difficult/awkward circumstance. We still enjoy those friendships, but we keep them to public places or with other people around. It's actually very freeing.

Before I got married, I found that if I spend enough time with a woman who I initially thought was ugly, she begins to grow on me. So time is a factor too.

I want one!!! I use to have a really close friend who was gay (he moved away... boooo), and it was fantastic to get a totally different perspective in a converstaion.... male, with girlfriend overtones, without girlfriend competitiveness. I actually would like a friend like Tim Gunn!
