Okay, I found this on the embassy website after doing a search...and it does in fact make me think she might be able to do it:

Applicants Own Funds

An applicant who expects to be able to meet the public charge provisions of the law through personal financial resources may submit to the consular officer evidence of funds or income from one or more of the following sources:

* bank statement showing present balance of applicant's account, date account was opened, the number and amount of deposits and withdrawals during the past 12 months, and the average balance during the year. If there have been recent unusually large deposits, an explanation thereof should be given;

* proof of ownership of property or real estate, in the form of a title deed or the equivalent and a letter from a lawyer, or real estate agent showing its present valuation (any mortgages or loans against the property must be stated);

* letter or letters verifying ownership of stocks and bonds, with present market value or expected earnings indicated;

* statement from insurance company showing policies held and present case surrender value;

* proof of income from business investments or other sources.

Is this what you all are referring to?

Yep

Being so tight you need to find the current number, if she had say 5 grand she would have been good to go.

Where would I find this number?

She only has at max 3 grand in GBP, but that would translate to at this point about 6 grand USD.

My co-sponsor I believe would be plenty willing to sign for her for the I-864 stage since it doesn't mention anything about a bond.

Hm.

E Mail would probably be easiest.

The I 134 is not enforcable anyway, the big ask is the I 864. So he has got it the wrong way around, but that may suit you.

I also intend to self-sponsor and I emailed the London Embassy to ask what kind of amount they would be looking for (I have around $100,000) but they didn't reply to me.

So if you do ask them and they give an amount I'd also be interested to know.

All of this is now a moot point, he said he'd go ahead and sign it.

Thanks for the info anyway.

I'd say that $100,000 is more than enough.

I'd just like to add that my interp of the bond question is that the beneficiary can't go onto public assistance, so the sponsor/co-sponsor must be willing to support them to a level that they don't have to get gov. assistance up to and including cashing a bond. If you/your co=sponsor can do this without cashing bonds, then you wont have to. The London embassy WON'T ask to actually see evidence of a cashed bond. I sponsored my husband (then fiance) with pretty much just bonds and we had no problems.
