REVENGE!

Today, I found out that I got a prestigious internship in California for the summer. A certain professor of mine wouldn't recommend me for the internship. She said she had a policy of only recommending students who have had several similar prestigious internships before, in order to protect her "reputation," and so couldn't help me. (For the record, I think this professor, whom I have suffered all semester, is an aging bimbo, and I have no idea how she secured her job.)

The question is, how do I best rub in her face that I got it? Just one sentence? Veiled sarcasm? Of course, I have to be professional about the whole thing, so it has to be pretty subtle. I will see her for what might be the last time tomorrow, so I want to send it out tonight.

Congratulations, Alex!

Will she know that you got it without you having to tell her? If so, I think no need to say anything at all.

No, I don't think she will, unless she specifically looks into it.

If there was one place I thought I could find wickedness, it was here. Nobody has a good story about getting revenge?

[cracks knuckles...] NOTHING pizzezz an academic more than an appeal/insult to their own ego..... how about a "dear professor Snape: off I go to UofWhichever, to put in place all I've learned here... I appreciate your always unwavering support"; with obvious copy to the Department Head...

 Wickedness abounds here, Alex. Congratulations! I suppose you could personally thank her for her support in getting the internship...watch her either look clueless and proud or squirm with embarrassment.

Congrats!

I wouldn't say anything. Be the bigger person.

You can be proud of yourself, that you got the internship without her help. You don't have to let her know. Let her think whatever she wants, silly cow.

I do understand the urge to tell her though, but it will be so obvious that you were offended by her not recommending you. Just let it go.

LAWL. Maybe I should put it in my evaluation. More like Prof. Trelawny.

Take the high road. She tried to screw you and didn't give you her support for whatever reason, but you took the initiative and got what you wanted without her, which is far more impressive.

Or you could mention the references you did use and say how their opinion seems to carry a ton of weight at X institution and you are sure to make many valuable new contacts while you intern over there.

Obviously I don't want to burn any bridges or say anything remotely rude; that is entirely out of the question. I think if I just say "I got this internship" it might be interpreted as rude. One approach I am considering: E-mailing both professors of that class and thanking the other for turning me on to the internship (which she did) and not mentioning that they didn't recommend me. I don't really want to mention that all my other professors thought more highly of me than they obviously did, but I wish there were some way to make them know. Can't see any way to do that that wouldn't be snide.

My parents always said that doing well and living well were the best revenge and it is very true. I would say that if your professors are anything like the ones I've had, they all talk to each other and are prone to give updates when something very good or very bad happens with a student. So I'd thank the professor who helped me and let him or her carry the good news back to the professor who tried to slight you. The update doesn't even have to come form you to trickle down to him or her. :)

Congrats on your internship.

Just say "FYI- I got that internship that you wouldn't reccomend me for". Then poke her eyes out and never look back.

Don't burn any bridges.

What I would do is simply let her hear you telling somebody else. If she cares at all, then she'll know without you pointing it out to her so she can't make a snide remark back to you or waste your time while she justifies her decision to you or herself. In fact, just act like she wasn't important enough to tell at all and you could care less about her opinion at this point.

Or do this:
