Then stay single! The whole concept of marriage is to share your life together. It's not giving up anything. It is adding to the quality of your life. There is a huge difference between a night out with some friends separate from your spouse and going on a "trip of a lifetime" without them. I look at this in the exact same light as if I, personally, won a million dollars. So, do I have to share a penny with her? I won it. A trip of lifetime could be worth a million bucks too. I would be a very selfish man to go and always know she was left behind.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I'll never understand why folks think it's necessary to give up all of the things they did before they were married so they can do every single thing with their spouse. Not seeing it so much in this thread, but I've seen it before on VJ often enough. *shrug*

Thankfully, I'm not on the market anyway... :jest:

And Kazan, I think it's selfish to begrudge someone an opportunity just because you can't go. Being okay with someone experiencing that trip of a lifetime is selfLESS. Thankfully I have a husband who would be that selfless. As I said before, I'd feel awful that he couldn't go and I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much without him, but he wouldn't hold me back. Personally, I hope this situation NEVER comes up for me because I DO want to experience all of those memories with him.

I guess I'd still go if it was paid for, not if I had to pay for it,

That's the key for me...

Yes, there's a difference between booking your cruise when your SO is not looking, and saying, "oh sorry honey, there was only one ticket left." and being offered a trip and for reasons beyond your control, your SO can not join you.

Yes, this is wonderful! I believe my fiancée would feel the same and I would for her. However, to go is still to experience it without them. To for always have those memories that could and should have been better shared. I could and would not go. As I pointed out before, it became a trip of not a lifetime by excluding her. The value is gone.

Being okay with someone experiencing that trip of a lifetime is selfLESS.

Some trips are better shared with other people, though, even if your SO COULD go. For example, an all-guys trip to Vegas. Or an art tour of Italy if your SO isn't into that sort of thing. You shouldn't be deprived of the trips you like to go on or have always wanted to go on just because you're married. You're not going to have 100% the same interests and there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored.

Exactly.
