I have aetna and I added my husband right after we got married. He doesnt have residency, an SSN or a visa but he is insured when he gets here.

Wow, that's amazing that they were able to add your husband without him being a resident or even having a social. I always thought a social was definitely a requirement.

An SSN is not a requirement for getting insurance and they have no legal right to require it of you... I didn't have a SSN for my wife for the first few months that she was on my insurance...

Really? That makes me so mad! My husband's insurance rep at work told him that we needed to wait til I had it to apply. Then again, this is the same woman saying she wants a "letter that proves" I have no insurance in the US.

WHO does she think will write the damn thing?

*sigh*

you could always just print off the page from the OHIP website that says you have to notify the Ontario government when you move out of province because they dont' cover costs for non-residents. That might help. If you had supplemental coverage back home, get a copy of whatever you sent them to sever that contract as well.

But experiences even within the same company (BCBS in this case) may differ because of different state laws regarding insurance.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

We just got our health insurance coverage letter from husband's company today and we too are using Blue Cross. I still don't have my SSN (thanks to all the messed up between SSA & DHS) but we just put our marriage certificate in along with the forms.

Hopefully they'll be able to sort things out for you!

You should write the letter and tell them you dont have coverage in the USA..

when you sign it.. Maybe put down, St. Peter or Santa Clause or some smart a$$ remark

maybe they get a hint to see how retarded they are

They gave me the same speel..not understanding that insurance coverage is taken care of by the provincial gov't of Ontario...I approached them differently by telling them that my employer in Ontario did not have insurance coverage and they seemed to understand that and went ahead and processed me..without a SSN I might add.

BTW..the insurance was blue cross blue shield.

The never-ending story of the visajourney of this Canadian/American couple can be found by clicking HERE

AOS was officially approved via email notice from USCIS on August 10th/2005, 622 days from the filing of the I-130 in Nebraska on November 26/2003, the very first day that we started our immigration journey.

Received 10 year green card on August 15/2005.

Our thanks to the creators of visajourney and all those here who helped us along the way..May God bless you and strengthen you on your visajourney....and now life goes on.

(Jeremiah 29:11-13)" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
