My EAD may take two years to arrive but I went and got my Indiana drivers license today...so I feel pretty good.

EAD takes at most 90 days to get, Green-card may take a long time to get.

Anyway congrats on the driver's license, every state is different for requirements.

Thank you both. I was so nervous. I already know how to drive but I always got nervous for road tests.

I think driving tests are designed precisely to make you nervous and see how you react.... mean, mean, mean.

I completely agree. The way they write things down, etc. I hate being evaluated like that. I came to a stop sign once and she didn't say where to go. It threw me off for a few seconds and I finally just kept going straight. I"m glad silly little things like that don't fail you.

Oh. And things are done so differently here. They asked me how much I weighed. I was like, "why do you have to put my weight on a drivers license?" And then they asked if I wanted to be an organ donor. I had no idea they were going to ask me that so I just said no for the time being because I hadn't thought about it. Where I'm from they just give you a card to carry with your license in your wallet. Gotta get used to how they do things here...

You can always sign up for an online driver's ed. course.... the person who signs all of your docs and such is the one who gives you the test. Once you do this, you don't have to do the driving test, just the computer one. I also read somewhere where you can take the computer one verbally and have a translator.

I actually got my driver's ed. done online by my mother... we never did any classes or anything, bc she was too lazy. She just had me drive her around for a few weeks, signed the papers, then we went to get the license.

Some states (not all, unfortunately) will allow you to transfer over your driver's license - depends on the country of the original DL as well as the state though.

I spoke to both the DSC in Vancouver as well as the Pennsylvania DMV and they told me that mine would be a straight transfer as long as I had the proper visa documentation.

As an aside, on my BC DL they asked for my weight and height. Guess they want to lessen the chances of someone "borrowing" your ID if the picture isn't that great
