Hi fellow Vjers,

Today i went over to the local DMV to apply for a new licence.... I showed them my passport, and they saw the I-94 with an expiry of 3 months from when i entered. They said they can only give me a licence till the I-94 Expires.... i explained K-1 is for a permanent resident status... I couldnt really argue with them because i couldnt prove it.

Do most K-1 peopl get it for the 3 month period or is there anything I could show them to give me a normal licence.

Thanks!

Yeah, they are correct. They will only give you a license that has a date that accords to the date on your legal status document, be it an I-94, date on an EAD, date on a Notice of Action, date on a conditional green card etc etc. There's no way around it unfortunatley.

you are stuck in immigration hell. Under the new federal REAL ID act that was imposed on the states, they have to verify that you are here legally, and will only give you a license valid only as long as you are here legally (i.e. the I94). Now if you get the EAD that is valid for a year, they will give you a license that is valid for a year. Thats the way it works now.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I had almost the same problem, they wanted my I-94, my SSN and the most important and thats why i had to back was the I-797 C Notice of action.

ditto - We just tried to get Claudeth a California I.D. and are still waiting for that after two months. They had to check with the USCIS. Go figure
