Anyone who went to Santa Ana:

Did you get an I-551? I am asking specifically before I go to an infopass next tuesday.

Thank you.

Why are you asking, because you didn't get one?

I am asking because I want one after my interview and want to know if that office issues them or not. If they don't and that's for sure I want to know so I can make travel plans around it. If they do normally issue it I want to know so I can book my flight to visit my parents etc. I can't make ANY definitive plans without knowing either way as I can't wait the 2 weeks for GC in the mail (wife is on break after interview so I want to go asap)

With the US government nothing is for sure, so no one can tell you what to expect. From reading the forum it seems like most people are NOT getting the stamp any more. I don't think you will know for certain until after the interview.

Best thing to do is to wait until you actually get approved and THEN make plans. Worst thing to do is to plan for something and then have to break the plans because things didn't go according to plan.

I wanted to update this for archive purposes. I went to the office this week and spoke to an IO named "Norberto". Older fellow. My wife and I were poking each other watching all the IOs and wanting to get him because he seemed cheery and friendly. We got called to him and he was about as nice as you could possibly get. Almost as if it was his first day on the job or something. But he was a pro and knew everything that was going on.

He shuffled our case a bit, read up and said:

"Background check, perfect. Fingerprints, perfect. Basically I see no reason at all you'd be denied. So in the likely event you are approved, to get an I551 you must have an absolute emergency. If you have one, bring the letter from a doctor or priest etc stating who is ill (etc) and why you must be there. In that event the interviewing officer will bring an approval printout down to us and we can administer the stamp once a supervisor approves it."

I asked if they ever just did it to be nice and he said it was office policy that they only did it in emergency cases.

So there you have it.

Where was the office located? I think the place that used to be at 17th and Main is gone.
