Hello Folks, please take the time to complete this super short survey. I am trying to determine statiscally if the presence of the USC at the interview has any bearing on the outcome of the interview.

Bumping up this thread.

I wanted to know the same thing but am just more confident in being present so I am definitely making plans to be present during the

second interview in April.

I believe 100% had I been there during his first interview he would have received the visa then. I am basing this on what I have heard from other

couples going through Dakar.

I wanted to suggest that you post this in the off topic or embassy forum but each embassy is so different that you can not really rely on the results

to give you a clear understanding of how Dakar works. But it would be interesting for statistics sake.

I would like to see a poll for second interviews also, most have them in Dakar if your USC is not there for the first, that is my observation.

I don't see any second interviews in the rest of sub-saharan posted here unless I missed them.

Dakar is one tough cookie

I haven't gotten near the interview yet, and I'm hoping to attend. I think it must have a positive effect on the process. But I could be wrong. Is it possible for them to not even know you are at the interview if they don't let you in? Well, I hope people respond, cause I'm very interested in the response.

My being there when the time for the interview came around was extremely positive. We actually managed to push the interview date up and get through the entire process at the Consulate (picking up the package, doing the medical, obtaining the police report, have the interview and have the visa in hand) within 8 business days. We were extemely fortunate that the Consulate decided to be very friendy and work with us to make it possible for Nani to come home with me.

So, here's a vote for attending the interview if possible.

Yeah, as I said, we were extremely lucky. The Consular officer we dealt with was super nice. Nothing usually happens that fast in Addis Ababa either. I flew over so we could spend our birthdays together - they're a week apart - and our approved petition arrived at the Consulate a week before I got there. We had 12 days between my arrival and departure and I thought we'd give it a shot. Went to the Consulate the day after I arrived and asked what the odds would be that I could take my wife back home with me. They gave me the list of items to complete and said to come in when we have it all together. We went back on Monday the following week and they gave us the appointment for the interview for Wednesday morning. Nani's ticket was already on hold and on Wednesday morning (Nani's birthday) we had our interview. 15 minutes and that was it. Had the visa and the ticket for Nani that same afternoon. Flew home together on Friday. Everything just fell into place. Sometimes things just work out, you never know until you try.

I will tell you, yes it is a VERY GREAT SHOW OF A REALTIONSHIP for the american person to be present at the interview. The person your filing for will be asked to go in first, and u may have to wait outside for hours, ( but u can go into the American Embassy side and take a free seat otherwise you'd have to pay outside to sit and wait ) I went for my ex-husbands interview, they wouldn't allow me in when he first went in but , hours later, when he got his interview, they asked for his to come and retrieve me from outside once he told them that I was actually outside waiting. Many got rejected that day and the day before, but noce the officer asked my Ex-husband to come and get me from outside the interview was much smoother for him.

He was approved with just the immigration asking me a few questions. Oh, how happy was my then fiance, his family, and me. I just didn't know that I was envolved in what I call a scam. My ex-husband was a medical doctor in Nigerai, and he spoke of love and togetherness while he was there in Nigeria and I was in the U.S. But once getting this man here and doing what's necassary for his adjustment of statis he coped a new attitude, he became a stranger to me although I had made to trips to Nigeria, he became a complete stranger to me, attitude and all.

For all u going thru the process , I need to inform u that they have a VAWA or I-360 bill where immigrants can claim that they have been abrused by their American spouse. You need to become familiar with the I-360 and look out for yourselves, cause if you don'[t your spouse trying to get here won't. Be aware of arguments that don't make sense to u and don't pass it off as cultural diffreence's.

Keep every e-mail sent, while dating , and he's still in Nigeria, and above all do not break American law to get your partner here with u..

I was present during for the K1 interview and it was quite pleasant. The consulate was friendly and I was able to be present during the whole interview process (which was quick and painless). The consulate did ask me if it was difficult being in a long distance relationship and I told him that it was..but I also stated that I did get to see my fiance everyday via webcam and we spoke on the phone every day...so the only thing that I could not do was touch him. We had our interview in Amsterdam because my hubby was studying there and just finished school.

I believe that being present did help because it validated our relationship. I remember meeting alot of people and they were all telling me that it would be years before Charles would be here and the whole process would take forever, but once I found this website...it removed all of my doubts and it strenghened all of my weaknesses because I was meeting people who was going thru the same process as me.

My heart goes out to all of you who are in this phase..be strong and have faith. We filed in July 2006 and he was here w/ me in Jan 2007. This website offers so much advice and gives you all the tools you need to make your journey successful.

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

I went ahead and voted since my husband also went through the Embassy in Dakar. I was not a part of the interview, but I could see and hear what was going on because the interview was conducted in a public room. The CO knew I was there because I went up to the window when my husband's name was called. Wasn't asked any questions other than was I the fiancee. I was at the interview, he was approved, and yes I think to some extent it made a difference. I say to some extent, because you never really know what is in the CO's mind, and I think the facts of each situation will make a difference in whether the USC's presence is necessary for approval. What I can say, is that it doesn't hurt for the USC to be there.
