Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I have a question concerning EAD.

My husband and I arrived in the States two weeks ago. He came in on a CR-1. I was under the impression that this has a built-in work authorization and that the passport stamp with visa acts as a temporary green card and all of the benefits that come with it.

However, several recruiting agencies hes been talking to about jobs have insisted that he get this EAD. But when I look up how to get it online, the USCIS website says that he doesnt need it, that his I-551 is proof enough. But the companies are still insisting about it.

What do I do? Who's right, who's wrong? It takes quite a while to get the EAD but I thought he could work right away.

Someone please steer me the right way. :help:

He should get his SSN. His Social Security card will have a mention underneath the number that states "valid for employment" (I can't remember exactly what the mention says, it's been a while...) But yes, you're right about I-551 as it's a valid documentation for the purpose of employment. Employers usually require both SS card + Green Card (or I-551).

Sometimes I think I know everything, and I regain consciousness. Seen it all, done it all, forgot most of it....

So much plenitude, yet so much emptiness
