Debt Collectors are RUDE!

That happened to me in CA. I kept getting calls for some woman by the name of Jessica Diaz, some for unpaid debt and others (bizarrely) from friends and acquaintances of hers. One guy who called me was really disappointed that he had the wrong number, as he had met this woman in a club the other night; and (in his words) “she was a choice piece of ***”

The Debt collectors really are pushy though – they don’t take you at your word when you tell them that you have no idea this person is (presumably because they're used to people ducking calls), or indeed why they’re calling you at all. Very annoying.

We had exactly the same thing happening here when I moved down. My husband was out of the house during the day so didn't get the day calls and just didn't answer the land line at night unless he recognized the number. When I arrived though, they were calling almost every half hour! I was furious! No matter how many times I told them that I didn't know this woman, I didn't know where she lived, that we had had this number for a year (at that time) already and she did not live at this address, they kept telling me I must know her and that she owed them money.

Finally, after about 2 years of this I found out about the No Call Directory and listed the number plus our two cell numbers with them. Blessed relief! The calls stopped within a few weeks and I only had one since then from her doctor's office with a reminder for her physical. They listened when I explained she didn't have this number any more and I had no idea where she lived.

So, do list your number with the no call list https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx and then if they do persist on calling, you can file a complaint against them with the No Call List.

If you want to know who is calling, here is another useful site: http://whocalled.us/

My husband's ex left him in 1999. We keep getting calls from debt collectors for her to this day. In the past I told a few that she hasn't lived here since 1999,she's moved to another State and no idea of her address in the other State. Just lately though, I finally gave them the name of the small company that she owns along with the phone number and address. I don't know how many collectors are after her. We're still getting the calls. I don't know if it's the same people or different ones. I have the answering machine on 24/7. I asked my husband to get a new number or an unlisted number but he's not doing anything about it.

We are on the No Call List however we still get the calls from the collectors. Only two companies have identified themselves right off the bat when they've called via the answering machine. I didn't realize that they didn't have the right to call too if you were registered on the No Call List. I'll get their numbers in future and report them.

I kept getting rude calls from a collector for my ex's daughter. Nasty people and they kept trying to force me into paying the bill. I had an attorney friend send them a letter and no more calls

Good luck with that, we got that and started getting phone calls from telemarketers 2 weeks after we moved in....

Gotta get yourself on the "National Do not call" listing... It will take about a month, but then the calls cease for the most part

Yeah, we've got all our numbers (home and cell) on the list and for the most part, it works very well. If we have one telemarketer call a month combined across all three numbers that would be a lot. The Do Not Call Registry works very well for us.

Currently I'm getting calls saying they need to speak to me and I need to call them back...I'm like F*** YOU, if it is so dang important have a f***ing human call so when I DO answer the phone they can tell me what you want to tell me!

I plan on writing them a Cease and Desist letter after 12/21...I am 90% sure it is about a reposession I had back in 2001 (bad year, long story). I'm not entirely certain how the Statute of Limitations works on a repo but the last payment I made was on 8/22/2001 but the sale of the car was credited (as a payment) on 12/21/2001, so I'm not ruffling any feathers until I know for a fact they have no legal recourse! In the mean time they can eat voicemail with their computer message... B)

Yeah and he pretends he's with the local fire department. Not cool.

my friends and I would prank call people, and ask for someone....then see how long we could keep them on the phone. Likewise for wrong numbers who called us....we'd say 'so and so's in the bathroom, they'll be right out. Whatcha up to?'

Oh and my brother would ask telemarketers to 'please hold a second and I'll get the 'lady of the house'...then he'd put the phone next to the tv and turn it to CSPAN. He's a riot.
