Nice K! Keep working on it! Luis was also able to understand and speak Portuguese and registering our marriage this weekend at the Consulado Itinerante in Little Rock. Also transferred my title and renewed my passport. Was very glad they came around to get stuff done without going to Houston.

me too - that one we went to this past weekend probably saved us almost 1k in flight/hotel/car rental.

Congrats to your husband, bora bora! I hope you enjoy your time in Brasilia. Have you begun your application for the VIPER visa yet? How's that going?

We just got back from registering our marriage with the consulate & transferring L's election title. I'm happy to say that while my Portuguese is still not so great, it was good enough that I was able to take care of the marriage registration stuff (while L was working on his election title stuff) entirely in Portuguese :)

Thanks! His naturalization oath ceremony is tomorrow!

We registered our marriage in December. I'm glad at least that is a simple, cheap process.

Woops, I spoke too soon!! :) :)

The Brazilian consulate in Miami called me today to notify me that my permanent residency visa is ready to be picked up. Yeah!!! Now the school can buy our plane tickets to Brasilia....should be there in 3 months.

it feels good being done with immigration. no more paperwork,no more biometrics, i mean, how many times can they take my fingerprints? i haven't mutated, it's the same as first time.

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Does she like fish?

A moqueca would be very brazilian and a delicious fish dish, it can be done capixaba style, meaning there's no dende oil, which would probably be hard to find anyway.

Also, if we know the region she's from and what sorts of food she likes it might be easier to suggest something,
