Hi all,

We've had some VERY annoying problems with the reliability (and speed) of the Polish Post Office throughout this last year.

Sadly, my love and I can't be together for Christmas ( :crying: ), so we need to ship some gift packages to each other.

Does anyone have experience with shipping between Poland and US and have recommendations? I guess reliability and speed are slightly more important than price, but all of it is important. (Also any customs considerations?)

I know DHL is used by the embassy, but I don't have any personal experience with this.

Much Thanks!

Using Fedex or DHL should work, but its likely to be much more expensive.

I'm probably too late, but I would recommend FedEx. HOWEVER, if you're shipping something expensive you might be facing extremely high custom fees. I had very unpleasant experience about 3 years ago, I was shipping a used laptop to a sick, bedridden child through FedEx. The laptop arrived without problems, but the family of the child faced about PLN 700 (about $250) in custom fees for a laptop worth $500!!! It was an outrage.

DHL isn't cheap, but it's the most reliable service for international shipping (though I can't testify for Poland in particular)

I could have given you info if I had found this post earlier, but who knows - you might need to ship something later. I ship packages to Poland all the time via the post office and I am very content with their services. Express mail takes up to a week (but significantly longer before Xmas). Unless I ship something really expensive I never put the real price of the contents on the customs form. They charge customs fees on the gifts and I don't think it's right. I always say contents is worth $50 and never had any problems. I am really surprised somebody above said that someone never received the books. Mail doesn't get stolen in Poland, nobody would leave it there at the door when nobody is home, but let's not exaggerate: mail gets to Poland fine.

I have been here 2,5 years and shipped dozens of packages and so did my husband when I still lived in Poland and everything arrived just fine. I would never ship via Fedex because their prices are so high.
