Luckily for me, my best friend met my fiancee before she and I even started talking. I saw her in one of his pictures from his trip to Canada and couldn't take my eyes off of her. So I stalked her on MySpace and was able to convince her that we should try it.

When she and I first started talking, she was firm that she would never again date a non-Canadian. Her ex left her to go back to Australia and used his immigration status as a reason they couldn't work out. She later found out that he went back to his ex in Australia.

1. People are a little arrogant about the U.S. A smart scammer would look for a husband in at least Europe these days.

Why is that? What's so special about Europe? And which country there in particular?

Much of Europe isn't exactly an easy place for a foreign person to come to and live in.

HAHA I can't tell you how many people, including my own family, have "advice" for me in regards to my wifey and our relationship and the "risks" i'm taking. I let that stuff go....what do they know anyway? You can get taken right here from anyone with a good divorce lawyer anyway. Risk or not, we're closer at a distance than many, many couples who live in the same home. I appreciate what I have, and like you, I'll wait as long as it takes and do whatever it takes to enjoy our life together.

Regards, hope you guys are together soon

A lot of the negativity that we're all up against is caused by the content of mainstream news being based on entertainment value rather than real newsworthiness.

Sensationalistic journalism always focuses on the extreme and unusual, exaggerating and exploiting the 'shock' value. The opinions that are generated by this so-called 'news' become accepted as fact because the vast majority of people absorb this pap on a daily basis. Once the majority believes a thing, the actual facts become irrelevant (and are less interesting anyway), and the thing takes on a life of its own.

The influence of sensationalism on people is why we are being treated like criminal suspects by our own government until we provide overwhelming evidence that we are law abiding citizens. It is why our loved ones are treated like suspected terrorists and scammers by the government of a country whose philosophy was (pre-Bush) welcoming to immigrants. It is why we will encounter the prejudice of ignorant bigots who are 'pumped-up' by sensationalistic media.

When this type of nonsense is regurgitated by friends and family, that is when it's the most hurtful.

Now, certainly, criminals, scammers and terrorists exist. However, the likelihood of a person (foreign or domestic) with a modicum of intelligence and forbearance getting to the point of marrying one is vanishingly small.
