I have a situation that much surprised me. After a long wait, we mailed in our Packet 3 materials right away. Judging from the website timelines, I figured we were looking at a 6+ week wait, so wanted to get this out right away, as we'd like to leave Thailand by the first of February.

However -- the great news is -- I checked out the interview schedule on the consulate's online site -- it was just updated yesterday -- and -- ###### -- my fiance's interview is in less than TWO WEEKS!

The scary news is -- my fiance's interview is in less than TWO WEEKS!

The problem is, we will have everything ready by then EXCEPT the police clearance letter. The reason being is that to obtain this letter through the normal channels, the happy thai fiance must travel all the way to Bangkok (for us, that means a round-trip flight in order to save the 17 hrs it would take by boat, bus, and train) -- and apply in person. THEN it takes, on average (unless something has changed) 2 weeks MINIMUM for the processing.

Well, we don't have two weeks. We planned on traveling to Bangkok at the end of this week to get this letter, thinking it would arrive well in time for the interview. We didn't do it earlier because we hadn't yet received the packet three materials and we wanted to make sure the petition arrived at the consulate before scheduling a time to go to bangkok for the doctor's visit and police certification.

If anyone knows, or has taken part in, an expedited way to get this certification, we would appreciate it so much. We called a translation service, but they told us many translation places aren't getting this certificate for people anymore for a fee because the police cracked down on them or something like that. She said to just go to the interview without it and give it to the consulate when we get it later.

We'd rather not do that, if we can help it.

My fiance just applied for her police certificate on Nov. 29th. She was told it would be ready on Dec. 19th. She paid to have the police sent it to her by EMS. She mailed packet 3 on the same day. We are waiting for an interview date. If like you, we get an early interview date, I will email the embassy to change the date until we receive the certificate. The embassy always emails me back in one day. Maybe changing your interview date is an option. I do not know of anyone that has gotten the police certificate expedited.

Good luck!!!

I think you got the best advice already, go to the interview anyway (it will not affect the interview process) and bring it back later when you get it. I would be concerned that if you try to reschedule the interview, you might have to wait 6 weeks. This way, if interview goes well, you will get the visa within a few days of bringing in the police cert. The Embassy accepts requested documentation only on non-holiday Mondays between 1pm and 3pm.

If it's true that the embassy only receives requested information on Mondays at those specified times, then we would be looking at either a week's wait in BKK, or else a third flight to Bangkok and back in the span of three weeks, because the interview is on a Monday.

My fiance just called a cousin of his in BKK who is a police officer. He told him to being in the documents that show that his interview is in less than two weeks, and he will see what he can do to help expedite. It's worth a try. Otherwise, another person on this site advised us to just go the the interview, and if we don't have the required document at the time, they will just turn us away without an interview as they collect documents and assign a different date a few days later -- that's if we even get the document by then.

Appreciate the response, and for the record -- my fiance is a he, not a she. Consulate makes the same mistake in their emails to me, calling me "Mr."

Not all petitioners in Thailand are male, and not all thai fiances are female, though it would often seem that way.
