I tell them thank you for your input and I'll be sure to give it the consideration that it deserves. Many times, the input deserves little or no consideration, but I don't have to tell them that.

The same way I deal with it at on these very web sites I frequent.....if it applies, I accept with graciousness and try to learn from it. If it's a load of #######, I usually argue, fuss, cuss, and eventually walk away shaking my head and muttering under my breath.

...many times, the unsolicited advice is condescending, no matter how good the intention behind it, especially when it comes from an elder family member.

I'm just blunt but that's how my family is. If we don't want to hear what they think or their advice we just say I don't care or I don't want to know or even I'm not even listening to you. It works just fine for us. No one ever has their feelings hurt. sometimes I even say f-off lol
