You may want to check the "bringing family members of permanent residents" forum.

We brought Lucy's sister on a tourist visa for a month's vacation last summer. Realize that it's up to the alien to prove sufficient ties to the home country, in the form of job, property, family, whatever. From the US, you probably can't help much in this area.

What you CAN do from the US side is provide a letter of invitation, saying you'll be providing housing and covering food and incidental expenses during the visit. This relieves the alien of having to prove sufficient funds to cover the costs of lodging and such during the trip. It's not a guarantee of success, but it can be helpful.
