I have been reading the instructions to e-file the application for my EAD. It says, you don't need to submit photographs when you e-file

"You will receive a notice in the mail from the USCIS that will provide you with your USCIS-scheduled appointment for capturing biometrics and photographs at an Application Support Center."

Now I have a question: This is my renewal application, so they already have my photo and fingerprints on file. I just recently had another biometrics appointment for my AOS application.

Now I am not sure, what to do: IF I do the e-filing and I don't submit my photo, will I have to go to the ASC office again just for the photo (because then I will just do the paper-application and add photos) or do you think, I will get my fingerprints taken as well?

I am just trying to avoind another 6 hour roundtrip to Dallas again, since we just went there a couple weeks ago for my AOS biometrics. (I am assuming, the AOS fingerprints won't get used for the EAD? Or are they that "advanced" to figure that all out?)

Also...what do I do with the other papers I need to submit, such as a copy of my recent EAD? THat is going to be send in a separate package anyway, right?

Do you think it might be better to just do the paper filing and send everything together?

I believe you will be required to do a second biometrics regardless of whether you paper file or efile. Biometrics are taken for specific files and are not shared between applications. They are also only valid for 15 months, so the biometrics you did for your first EAD have or will expire by the time they get around to processing the renewal application. I e-filed and found it reassuring to get the confirmation responses of the fee payment right away. If you e-file, you would need to include these receipts with the paper support documents that you send by mail.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

A friend of mine recently did E-filing for the EAD renewal and the process went quite quickly, took about 6 weeks. He e-filed the paperwork and sent in 2 photos and copies of his last EAD card as the support documents. I am not sure if you will have to attend a separate biometrics appointment for the EAD. In his case he did not file for AOS, and his fingerprints on file were still good, so he did not had to do that again. So I believe that they will use the prints they have on file for you. I am no expert on the topic, just thought i would share this information with you since i came across your post.

Goodluck!

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try to e-file and send the supporting documents by mail and then see what happens. The only tricky part is, that I am going on vacation in a little over two weeks until the second week in January and of course I don't want a biometrics appointment scheduled while I am gone...and both times I had those, it went really quickly, like I got the letter with the appointment two weeks later.

Guess I have to time it really good...
