Different last names

So I moved to the UK in March, and we married in August. We're now putting together the package to apply for spousal visa so we can move to the US together.

We still have different last names though, for a couple reasons: 1. his last name is incredibly long and I'm a lazy person when it comes to filling out forms and signing things. When I was 8 I changed the spelling of my first name from 5 letters to 4 to make all that quicker. 2. I didn't want to bother with the hassle involved in getting my identifying documents changed, my bank and job information changed, and all of the other things that go along with a name change.

Will this affect our petition negatively?

No and you don't need to give a reason. You didn't take his name at marriage. End of story.
