Alright, silly and redunant as it seems, I will follow instructions per NVC. I will have an original AND photocopy of each document requested sent to them with the other info..(save for the passport) can't send the original there ;)

Do we have to Photocopy and duplicate the DS230 forms as well? Or just the supporting documents?

Your Welcome DJturbo..

No Roserick,

Per the website, you need only send photo copies of the supporting documents. The original DS-230 is fine. Although if you're an organizational freak like me you might make a copy of it just in case

I just looked at the USCIS site and the rules have indeed changed. For all embassies whose appointments are set by the NVC they now require the original or certified copy of the requested information and a copy of each. It seems silly to take a chance on getting an RFE when it doesn't take long to copy a few sheets. Also get an extra original birth certificate, marriage cert. and police report because you will need onother set of originals and copies at the interview.

Hmm, you should not need an additional original for the interview. NVC should forward your originals to the consulate/embassy and they should return them to you at the interview.

Did you read this or hear this somewhere?

It's on the US Embassy Manila site under things to do to prepare for your interview. I'm not going to take the chance of being put on AR over not having whatever forms they want after this long journey.

One paragraph from the instructions

Under Guidelines on what to bring on the Interview day.

The Embassy will make every effort to return an applicant’s original documents, but it is advisable not to turn in something that cannot be replaced. Consular officers often ask to see originals of documents. If the applicant wishes wish to keep an original document, he/she may submit a photocopy, but should have the original for inspection by a consular official.

This is what I see on the Manila site:

Applicants must submit application documents to NVC to be documentarily qualified for the visa interview. Unless all requirements are submitted, the Embassy cannot process a visa application to completion. Be mindful of the expiration dates of the required documents, and bring updated ones to the interview if necessary.

I think maybe they are talking about 2 different things, perhaps Direct Consular Filing vs NVC processing?

- I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just thinking that for some people the added expense of getting more originals, when not required, might be a waste of money.

From what I heard from other people's Interview experience..

It really depends on the Consul.. Some might ask you for it, some might not..

Majority of the time, what they really need is proof of bona fide relationship/marriage.. (Pictures, letters, etc..)

But like what rjp44 said.. You don't want to risk your case of getting AR and the consul having you to comeback to submit documents..

Its always good to be prepared...

Hi Roserick,

Good point, you should always look for posts from people who have gone through your same embassy/consulate to see what 'really' happens at the interview.

Did anyone else notice this?

Under Document Requirements it says:

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

But under Getting the applicant’s documents back, it says:

Note: Only one original or certified copy of each document must be submitted with the visa application.
