Best time to fill out Affidavit of Support? Employer letter?

I'm going to see my SO this January and based on the VJ timeline estimate, our adjucated date is 4/8/07. My question is, would it be too early to bring a notarized Affidavit of Support to my fiance? I was also planning to get a letter from my employer and also my 3 years Fed copies of returns w/original W-2's (2005-2007) to take on my trip next month.

Would it be too early to do that or do those documents (aside from the copies of my returns) need to be dated closer to his interview date? We're still waiting for our NOA2. I can always send them by courier if they need to be dated closer to his interview date.

Should be done fairly close to interview, 3 months before interview is fine, you can always add more recent pay stubs to the I-134.

One other thing about I-134, the directions included with I-134 are very old, USCIS has no reason to update them since USCIS has no application for that form.

The consulates tend to treat the I-134 like a mini-I-864 as so prefer the same financial evidence as the I-864.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

• I-134 signed and notarized.

• SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

• Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years (Not necessary if you provide the transcripts)

• Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

• Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.

My income was well above the povertyline so I did not include any asset data (LIKE BANK STATEMENTS or property values).

If your income exceeds 125% of the povertyline when counting yourself, prospective immigrant and any dependents, then don't bother with assets (401K, Bank balance, Stocks etc..), it is just extra un-needed data to provide, the consular officer is most concerned with INCOME.

Also if interview falls after April 21, they could ask for a copy of 2007 IRS return.

Good idea. You might want to take over some of the communication evidence this trip, just to make the later package lighter and less expensive.

I'm going to bring all the original evidence and copies of communication with me next month.

By the way, would the Consulate need my original Naturalization Certificate? I'd hate to leave it with my SO, just in case it gets misplaced or something, unless I really have to.

I provided a copy of all pages of my passport with a Notary's stamp on each page attesting to it being a true and correct copy. I suppose you could do the same with a Naturalization Certificate but I think a regular photocopy is ok too. My insurance agent does my notarizing, so it was free and easy.

I'll copy my Naturalization Certificate as well as all pages of my passport and have it notarized by my friend, so it'll be free as well. Thanks again!!!

You can take it now, because you will not be using 2007 fed tax returns until after 4/15/07 for financial proof. Only the 2006, 2005 and 2004. I would recommend taking all of it now, if your interview date gets delayed until after 4/15/08 you can always mail more current up to date info then, that is great you are so organized and ahead on all of it.

I completed the I-134 in January '07 and the employer's letter in December '06 for a March '07 interview. I brought up to date pay stubs and my 2006 tax return/W2s with me to my hubby's interview.
