I'll in China in 10 days (12/11) for a 47 day stay (until 1/27/08) with my SO. Let's assume that, God forbidden, I would get a REF while there. I could have someone in the US forward it to me and I'll respond there. But if I couldn't respond while in China because I don't have the evidence with me, can I contact USCIS to ask for an extension? If so, how? Also, normally what is the time frame a RFE must be answered?

1) If you have everything in petition in order you should not get an RFE.

2) If you do get an RFE, how about having someone that you trust in the USA while you are out of the country handle it for you? Have a complete I-129F package ready, and the person can send any part of the package that is being asked for in to USCIS.

Good idea. Thanks. One more question. Does an REF reply require my signature?

Not sure, out petitions have been flawless, so no RFE, If it does, then the trusted person may have to send you a copy of the RFE notice to sign and return. China <--> USA priority mail takes about 10 days each way. I suspect fax copies would work also.
