Should he take the job

26 members have voted

  1. 1. Is it best just to not take the job and keep the passport at the embassy, or take it and wait for them to request it

    • he should take the job, better money and experience , request the passport back

Stay!

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I too would want my honey to stay put. It would just suck if 2 weeks or a month after he took the job the consulate wanted his passport and he couldn't go back and get the visa. Unless you are prepared to make that sacrifice should the situation arise, I wouldn't risk it.

My fiance has been offered a job that would require him to travel to Saudi Arabia and UAE and also work in Egypt. He would still be able to leave as soon as he gets the visa. BUT, the embassy held his passport, we have have been in AP for 7 months now and had a 2nd home visit last week (the first no one answered the door). I am optimistic that things will be moving on our case soon and its not wise to ask for the passport or travel. He thinks the job offer is a great opportunity he will receive certifications valuable for starting a career here in the US.

My points

traveling to Saudi Arabia not a good idea(he has never traveled out of the country before which I think is good in the eyes of the consulate unless your going to the us or europe)

Asking for his passport back can only add time to our waiting and is not a good idea

His points

He will have a better job and who knows we may be waiting another year or worse.

He will improve his resume for the US workforce

He really likes the manager/company

What do you think?

What would you do?

Hi Annie,

I don't think he should risk it. It doesn't sound like taking a job in Kuwait/Quatar is the same as taking a job in Canada. And most employers are not happy to have employees who could leave at any moment. And if he was there more than 6 months, he'd have to get a police certificate.

On the other hand, if he really wants to and you both understand the risks....
