Flying to US -- border tips please

I flew to visit Bee while our K1 was processing, and the only thing they asked to see was proof of my return ticket. I know misa also visited her husband every three weeks while her K3 was processing, and she says she never had any issues flying back and forth.

I agree with the above except for the answer of who you're visiting-answer "husband". Maybe it's a male/female thing or it's just a difference between different officers, but the few times that I said that I was visiting my friend, the follow up question was always Boyfriend? then I got to go chat with immigration for 30-45 minutes. However, I had much less problems when I just said that I was visiting my boyfriend/husband.

They'll probably ask what your immigration intent is-also be honest. you're planning on immigrating but not on this visit and you are beginning the application process in XX weeks.

I also agree with not needing a lawyer unless you have some complications with your history (criminal or immigration record, etc.)

try the search function-tons of us crossed the border regularly while the visa was being processed.

I agree with everyone else. Just be honest. I finally got my visa last month, but been married the last 3.5 years and crossing the border 2-3 times a month since then to visit him. I was always honest and told them that I was going to apply to move down there, or had applied for the IR-1... Sometimes they would ask how long ago I applied, they usually asked me where I worked, but I never had to show a pay stub (even though I had them). Sometimes I would have to pop open my trunk, I guess so they could see I only had enough clothes for a couple days, and not suitcases with my lifelong belongings. They just want to make sure you're coming back home, until you can legally move there.

yes please watch how you refer to people. We have Cdn and USA immigration authorities on this board and hanging out in the Cdn section and they have been of great help. Were a tame group here. name calling is reserved for the off topic section on VJ

Also, don't get a lawyer. We got a lawyer and it was the biggest waste, as flames9 said, of 2500 dollars. All the lawyer did was file the paper work WITH us. He showed up at our 2 minute long interview and didn't have to say a word. Unless you have committed an immigration crime or have a criminal past, it is really not necessary.
