Hello everyone and happy Sunday.

Although my husband and I are legally married in Egypt (the marriage being registered and everything), we could not get married at the Ministry of Justice. Which means we are not officially married in the U.S.

I know it has been mentioned before that if you get married in your spouses country but it's not legal in the states, that there could be some problems with filing, and that the government might think there is some fraud or something going on.

It seems to me that I can't file for K3 since our marriage isn't valid in the U.S, but I don't want to have any problems filing for K1 either.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Also, since the prices went up, does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it costs for filing all the forms? We don't want to start filing until we know we have the money for it.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure your going to have to file for a K-1.

Since you are not legally married it's the only route. But since it is something that happens in Egypt, I don't know if you would actually have any problems from the consulate if you addressed the issue early. I doubt it will give you any problems until you reach the interview since the the NVC won't care, they only care that you aren't legally married. Hope that makes sense

Hopefully someone more knowlagable will come along soon

As for the fees... The current filing fee for the K-1 visa is $455.00

There are a few small things you might have to pay for such as medical exam (45 egp I think), military certificate, police certificates, and small things like that. It can add up, but it's gradual and hopefully not too much of a strain. Oh, and you have to pay for any DHL the embassy sends to your husband (everything they send out is by DHL  )

After he gets here there is another $2230.00 all the way through until naturalizaion if you don't have to wait more than a year for his 1st Green Card

Broken down its:

$455 - I-129F

$1010 - AOS

$340 - New EAD if have not yet recieved GC

$545 - Removal of Conditions

$675 - Naturalizaion
