Oh I soooo sympathize. Several years ago, I had my regular hairstylist do my hair, right before SHE went on vacation and she was very distracted. I TOLD her I wanted it just trimmed up, and she absolutely gave me a SHORN look. I cried the rest of the afternoon. It was SO short, and I was due to go on vacation myself the next day. It was so short I could barely put it up for hot weather, which I usually do. In the airport, the guy looked at my passport and couldnt recognize me...and I just started bawlin and sobbing out the whole haircut story. He must have heard it from his wife or daughter before, he handed that passport back so fast you couldnt believe and processed us to get us out of there...with me still carrying on and sobbing....lol

I think it's really cute!!! I was envisioning something a LOT shorter. And as someone else said a GOOD short cut is much better than a bad longer cut. You look very nice. I know it's not what you originally expected though and that's sometimes just the shock of it not that it's an unflattering style (which it's not.)

I don't think it's part of the hairdresser's code either. I think we have to be extremely specific and demand exactly what we want when we walk into a salon. And if it's not what we want when it's over, don't leave completely unhappy. I've done that and regretted it. If it's a cut you aren't happy with, they should compensate you somehow and if it's color-related, they should offer to fix the color for nothing. The last color I had before my wedding wasn't quite right, so I called went back and the entire fix was free...as it should have been. The reputation of the salon is at stake, so a really good one will want to protect that.

But the best way I think to avoid it in the first place is to be very specific beforehand, AND realize that the glamour shots taken in those haircut magazines don't work on every hair type, face, etc. Just cuz some model/celebrity has a certain haircut, doesn't mean it will look that way on you, or even be possible with your hair type.

Lastly, if a salon f*cks up and won't fix their mistake in some way...that's the last they should see of you AND I'd let other folks know it isn't a good salon...

all good points. I did pay and I did tip. She was quite nice, and as I said, nice haircut but I like the BE SPECIFIC part. I should have said, take off 3 inches...this was about 6-7 inches off to tell you HOW LONG it really was.

You all rock :)

So My hair was long. Down to my bra...long. Nice...but getting a little shaggy so I decided it was time for a hair cut.

I wanted to go to some cheap place like hair cuttery, but mom, trying to be nice, insisted, NO NO go to a nice place, I'll treat you for Easter.

Fine.

I get there, and I say.."Shoulder length, maybe a bit longer, Please.." As the scissors are posed over my hair, she goes, "Shoulder length, right?"

MY HAIR IS JUST BELOW MY FREAKING EARS. I am FREAKING OUT. I am not a short hair kind of girl - my face is too wide. OMG i cried for an hour and now here I am with horrible hair :(

THat said I'm starting to get over it, as my new mantra is, hair grows fast, hair grows fast...SIGH.

Just had to rant. SOrry. :(

I would be taking them to Judge JUdy..

in the mean time get one of those Clip on pony tails..

Yeah, that's what I mean about being specific...I always tell them exactly how many inches, because shoulder length to one person might mean grazing the top of the shoulder, and to someone else, it might mean covering the shoulders.

But all this is not mean to say I don't sympathize...because I DO...when you get something you aren't expecting...WHOA...shock to the system!

Hey if i can cheer you up, i've been thru worse!

I was on a trip to Syria 5 yrs ago with my mother, and we decided to go do our hair. It seemed kinda like a ghetto place and the girl looked awfully young, but i was desperate, i had to do my hair THAT DAY!

I had my mum go first, bcz i wanted to see if the so called hairstylist knew what she was doing. So my mum asked for highlights.. As the highlights were drying, the lady asked me to come... I told her that i JUST wanted a blow dry as my hair had already been chemically processed the week b4 (they had done a good job then). And then she said that i could have my hair permenantly straigh also. I figured she knew what she was doing (and i had done a relaxer a few yrs back even though my hair is almost straight anyway), so i just asked her how much? It woulda been the equivalent of $10 Canadian!! So i said okay...

After she put on the relaxer, and as she was washing off my hair, she told me "You know, just go home and blow dry ur hair urself, its better if you air dry ur hair first"... So i said "No, just go ahead and blow dry it". ANd then she repeated it again, and i said "Look, i came here so that you would do a FULL job, not a half-job!"

Anyway, then as she was blowdrying my hair (about 10min into it), i realized i had alot of hair on the floor, and i would hear slight snapping as she would brush thru, and her blowdrying technique was horrible.. And THEN, in a fraction of a second, i realized what COULD be happening. Right then and there, i told her to stop, i ran my fingers thru my hair, and my hair's elasticity was 0 !!! Like my hairs were breaking without pressure!! I freaked out right then and there! I was yelling, crying...omg...! I was telling her "YOu want me to go back to Canada looking like THIS?!?! WHAT ARE PPL GONNA SAY?!?! I was crying until my mum told me to calm down.. To compensate, the lady said we don't have to pay her for MY hair, just my mum's!!

OMG, AND MY MUM'S HAIR BTW, was green!! NASTY!

So when i got back to Canada, i had to pay not only to repair damage, but to make it nice also! I don't know if you watch PEOPLE'S COURT, but the judge often says a quote in spanish which means that the "cheap sometimes ends up being expensive!"

oooooooooooo yes, me tooooo. your hair DOES look really nice tho!

When I went to the Salon 4/5 years ago, I had hair somewhere between my bra and my waist...I had had waist-length hair since I was about 5..in my Kindergarten pic!! Anyway, I wanted a TRIM and wasn't specific!! and this lady(small town salon here in town, she owns it) cut SIX inches off...I came home and bawled and bawled too..and it was only just above my bra..but everyone had always liked my hair really long, and I felt it didn't look good on me. Nowdays, It's just maybe a little bit longer than it was that day, but at that time I was appalled!! I want to get a big curls or loose wave perm soon. I can't decide..my hair is sooooo blah now..it just hangs there!!! Glad you're used to it now a bit...looks reallycute on you. M.

Your hair looks awesome, Karo! That's a great haircut. After reading your post I was imaging something much shorter; that's still half-long and without trying to be repetitive, it looks good on you.
