I'm ready to submit the ds-230 for my wife who lives in Peru. The question I have is, do I have to submit MY birth certificate along with hers? or just hers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Now, this may be a stupid question and perhaps I'm being paranoid but with good reason.. :P I'm filing out the DS-230 parts I and II now. Since my wife chose me as the agent on the Choice of Agent. I can sign for her where it says applicant or do I actually have to sent it out to her and have her sign the DS-230 herself?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks :)

Actually, your wife must sign DS 230 part I and II, since she is the applicant (you are the USC petitoner, not applicant). Part I can be signed now, but she must not sign part II now. She will be asked to sign part II by the Consular Officer during the interview. You can prepare DS 230, but you can not sign it.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Your wife needs to sign Part I only. Part II needs to be signed in front of interviewer. I had my wife download the 230 and fill it out on computer then print and sign Part I then send that with the other certified papers they requested to me by FedEx overnight to save some time. You can see by the timeline that things went pretty smoothly after that.

So they dont send you the DS230 with some kind of barcode on it? your foreign spouse can just download and print it?

The packet will only contain a letter telling you what they want and a cover sheet with barcode that must be on the front of what your send in. Yes, the DS-230 must be downloaded. The easies way for us was for wife to download and print, then write in the infor as she collected it, then downloaded it again and filled it in on the computer so everything was typewritten. This let her have everything done abaout the same time I got the packet. Then she can sign only Part I then send everything to you and you attach barcode sheet and send it on to NVC.

I feel so stupid but... The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit the following original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity). In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents. Does this mean we have to send duplicates? The first and second statement sound redundant to me :P

Not stupid, hmmm I think this is new.

I don't think it's redundant really (just poorly worded re the 2nd set of certified copies, plus why would you send a 2nd certified copy when you are only asked for a photocopy in addition to the original), but anyway they are asking for 2 different things.

Sounds to me like they now want the originals and they want you to supply a photocopy of everything, I don't remember seeing that before - anyone else?

Actually I'll start a new topic to ask this.

Trailmix,

Thank you so much for the quick response. I don't feel nearly as bad now that you're befuddled as well. :) The statement I copied was directly from the Dept of State website I was instructed to go to: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html. Anyone else experience this?
