Now that I'm done being upset about the fee increase, which is old news, I wanted to know how much more we would pay with the new fee structure. Below are our remaining two steps and associated fees:

1. Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence (I-751)

Previous Fee:$205 (No Biometric Fee)

Current Fee: $545 ($465 App Fee & $80 Biometric Fee)

Increased Cost: $340

2. Application for Naturalization (N-400)

Previous Fee:$400 ($330 App Fee & $70 Biometric Fee)

Current Fee: $675 ($595 App Fee & $80 Biometric Fee)

Increased Cost: $275

TOTAL INCREASE: $615

Somebody higher up the food chain (the fed gov't.) authorized these increases. All we can ask for is transparency and accountability. While I'm disappointed to be having to pay more, unless someone can point out blatant misuse of monies collected by the USCIS, I don't see the point in getting upset over it.

Has anyone looked into the GAO for their report on the USCIS?

1. There was a biometrics fee added in the fall of last year ($205+70=$275).

I'm thinking that, by the time naturalization rolls around for many of us, that the backlog will be taken care of. Right?

there was a biometric fee. I have the canceled check to prove it

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

You are correct, but when we first began the process based upon an old fee schedule that I have from the USCIS, the I-751 did not have a biometrics fee. However, the I-751 did have a biometric fee before the HUGE fee increase.

It's hard to say. So much can change with a simple act of Congress. Last year at this time there was only beginning to be a bit of noise about the fee increase. I figure I won't really worry about it again until it's time to lift conditions.

Yo,

Might I join in the kvetch?

The interim benefits nearly doubled as well. AP went from $170 to $305, and EAD went from $180 to $340.

My husband is applying for EAD #3 this week. Forking over $340 just before Christmas really stings! And because USCIS isn't the hold-up (as they say, it's the FBI), it's not like we feel we're getting more for our money.

It's hard to believe that year ago, we were saying to each other (re: EAD #2), "Gee, the green card could arrive any day now, and the $180 would be wasted." How optimistic we were! :(

I guess the only consolation is that when Jon finally gets his green card, it should be a 10-year card, so he won't need to worry about removing conditions (our second anniversary is Monday). That said, the cash we've had to fork over for interim benefits negates that financially.

Grrrrr.....

...I don't see the point in getting upset over it...

It's called therapy. Hehehehe... If we keep all this stuff inside, we're all liable to bust a blood vessel.
