I am about to have my birth certificate translated , since I think I'll need it for the Social Security number and the AOS. Are they any special requirements for translators I should know about? Does it have to be done i the US? The translator I contacted is certified by the French Courts , is that enough?

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Thank you.. So does it mean that maybe I don't need a certified translator (who takes 50 dollars for half a page)but I can translate it myself of have a bilingual friend translate the form for me and sign it ?

yes. you can do it if you fluent (conversant) in both languages.

Yes, many people here, me included, translated their own birth certificate.

My wife just used her passport (she had a translated birth certificate but they didn't even ask for it.) I think any proof of date of birth is sufficient (I could be wrong.) Good Luck
