What do you think of the immigration process?

Hmm, trying to create a poll here but having trouble.

Just blowing off some steam.

It seems like its difficult NOT to make at least one error in each round of this process for me.

All one needs for evidence that US immigration process is complex--look in the attorneys section of YP, specifically under immigration. If you compare with Canada (only other country with comparable number of attorneys per-capita), the number of immigration (Canada) attorneys in Calgary is a lot less than 10% the number of immigration attorneys for metro-Atlanta area (Calgary has over a million population, metro-Atlanta a shade over 5 million--so, not even half the immigration attorneys)

The only skill you need to do this without errors is the skill to read many pages of boring documents and understand them. The language itself is not overly complex, IMHO.

Well, mmm....

I think the requirements are a good thing. I think it's only reasonable to request a police background check, and health checkup from an intending immigrant. To request evidence that your relationship is genuine is also good thing (I think I can safely say that none of us here like it when we hear about scams to obtain immigration benefits, and if providing proof of your relationship can help narrow down those cases, then it's fine by me). The affidavit(s) of support I have mixed feelings about, but mmm, the requirements are logic. Having an interview so the immigration officer can meet the intending immigrant is also a reasonable requirement.

What I don't like about it, is: the long waiting periods. $1010 for AOS is a little high. Sometimes it feels that the K1ers are left in this period of nothingness between the time we arrive and waiting for AOS, I wish the system was more prepared to receive K1ers, and avoid problems and delays with obtaining SSNs, work permits, and drivers licenses.
