Sponsers:

do they need to own their own home?

how much income do they need?

what kind of financial things does a sponsor have to have?

we are very worried that we will not find a sponsor that qualifies... :crying:

does anyone have any ideas or answers?

Your sponsor needs to be able to pass the poverty guidelines by, I believe, 125%: either in income or assets I believe.

Your spouse will still need to submit an Affidavit of Support as primary sponsor, never mind how little money he/she has.

125% poverty line should be income (around $17200/year for 2 people, before taxes). The consulate at the embassy is more concerned about obtaining a fix monthly income rather than assets. Lets say you declare your car as an asset, and its paid off and say its worth $10,000. The question with Assets are, will the sponsor be able to sell the car at $10,000? and if so, will the person be able to go to work because of this sold car? Remember assets are only extra support to show that you can provide food, shelter and expenses for your beneficiary and not a substitute of income. The best is always showing proof of 125% income from taxes filed and W2 forms from the previous years and if you dont meet the 125% poverty line then get a co-sponsor. The consulate wants to make sure that the beneficiary will not be living off government money (food stamps, SSS, etc) .

Hey everyone!

I'm a little confused about one thing. My Fiance (USC), makes well over the 125% for a household of 3 before taxes and child support. Are they looking for him to make over the 125% before or after child support and taxes are taken off?

Thanks!! :D

put it this way, what they looking at is 125% of your house hold not 1 person.

let said

2 people= 17k

3=19k

4=22k

so if your fiance household is 4 people including you then you should look at 22k mark not 17k mark
